Something about straining at gnats and swallowing camels, I think.
I read an article recently about how the decade long push to recycle has resulted in recycling centers receiving way more recyclables than they have the capacity to process, and so a lot of it gets shipped over seas to countries like China who have lax environmental regulations and end up dumping most of it into the ocean anyway. So ironically, the more we recycle, the worse it is for the environment.

Sometimes the quest to "save the environment" does more harm than good, and is often downright stupid.

The other problem with recycling is commingling. Governments decided to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle, so they could toss all their recyclable material into the same container. The issue with that is, now you need to pay someone to sort it all, which costs too much to do here - thus, stuff gets shipped to China instead. There are also problems with people putting non-recyclable materials in the mix, even unintentionally; e.g., if one piece of Pyrex glass is added to a batch of regular glass being recycled, it apparently ruins the whole batch.

I believe I have mentioned this at one time earlier but several years ago while sitting on the porch of a friend of mine, we watched the recycling truck pick up the separate bins they are required to use and dump them into the truck (no it didn't have separate compartments) which sorta defeated the purpose of sorting them.

So they cheated you out of the good feeling you got for recycling. You may need therapy.

They do it in my neighborhood, too, usually when they're behind schedule or trying to catch up after a holiday.
