You can, though only rifles loaded with a single bullet, or guns. The guns stay at the shooting gallery, and you purchase ammunition there. You may own a hunting rifle if you have a license, and there are certain times and places where you may use it for hunting.

Owning a gun for the purpose of self-defence if of course illegal in Denmark.

I mostly want it for sport (target shooting with some friends at the range) but also to keep at home for protection. I seriously doubt I will carry it around in public, but I am getting a permit just in case I ever want to.

I have several .22 handguns and one .22 rifle, simply because you can buy a ton of ammunition really cheaply.
