This situation, to me, was SO "out of the ordinary", and either this woman had LOUSY training, or -- more likely -- was simply never cut out to be a cop.

DPD is so gutted right now they are woefully understaffed...and, quality people no longer want to be police officers because of the pubic backlash...

Yeah, I'm hearing they're having a terrible time recruiting -- and it's sad, because they used to be a pretty top notch department.

I don't know that this applies in this particular case*, but in many cases, there is such pressure for "diversity" that there is much more emphasis on gender or skin color than there is on merit.

*actually, I believe it does, but can't say why.

Listening to the coverage of it from various venues, nearly all of the "experts" had been predicting a manslaughter conviction given some of the questions that the jury had asked.

I'm actually a little surprised it was murder rather than manslaughter, but from what I gather, it was such GROSS negligence on her part that manslaughter just didn't seem to do it justice.

That would include folks like you. When you are relentlessly critical you (collectively) run off the very qualified candidates you purport to want.

This verdict will only amplify the problem for Dallas. No one sane will want to work for them - so that leaves the desperate and nuts.

Given the verdict, how seriously would you consider working for them? Not justifying her, but nothing about this case recommends Dallas as an employer.

Get out of jail free cards for cops? No thanks.

If Botham Shem getting the verdict makes a person question whether they wanna be a cop, I don't want them as a cop.

                          • As badly as I feel for the family of the victim, I also feel sympathy for the shooter. It clearly wasn't premeditated murder, it was a stupid split second decision motivated by fear and confusion. If she were an open carrying civilian, she'd probably get Manslaughter. Ruined her own life, and as an officer she's unlikely to fair well in prison regardless of how long her sentence is. What a shame for everyone involved. I'm glad it wasn't up to me to decide her fate.

Again, I have to wonder about her training. There were so many aspects of her conduct that scream "improper training".
