The reason I think it's superior to modern Christian worship music is because the lyrics, even though they're primarily meant to describe her battle with Lyme disease, manages to capture the feeling of hopelessness and despair that people go through when they get awareness of their own sin and realize they're lost without God. I realize she (Avril Lavigne) didn't necessarily intend for this "double-layered" understanding of the lyrics, but there's no denying it fits.

It's like most the stuff that comes out has been so focus group tested to appeal to everyone that it ends up appealing to nobody. It is pap.
