  • Avril Lavigne's "new" single blows 90% of modern Christian music out of the water

    Probably more than 90%:

The song details her struggle with Lyme disease and how she found strength to get through it with the help of God. You could slog through hundreds of modern worship "hymns" and their combined depth would still not add up to something comparable to this.

I haven't listened yet, but I realize the sad part is that it probably wasn't difficult to accomplish such a feat.

Yeah, I like that. Good song.

I had no idea she had Lyme disease.

        Yeah.

The reason I prefer this song over most modern Christian music isn't necessarily that it's theologically richer. In addition to being theologically vacuous most modern Christian music is also lyrically bland and sub-par.

This song isn't necessarily a theological treasure trove. The reason I think it's superior to modern Christian worship music is because the lyrics, even though they're primarily meant to describe her battle with Lyme disease, manages to capture the feeling of hopelessness and despair that people go through when they get awareness of their own sin and realize they're lost without God. I realize she (Avril Lavigne) didn't necessarily intend for this "double-layered" understanding of the lyrics, but there's no denying it fits.

Agreed. The lyrics are still rather, er, feminine for me to like it as a worship song. The music is decent, though.

            That.

It's like most the stuff that comes out has been so focus group tested to appeal to everyone that it ends up appealing to nobody. It is pap.
