  • Pro-life, Abortion Rights and Gun Control

Greetings tWebbers... Question for Americans regarding Gun control and Abortion matters. If you could 'trade' away your Gun rights in exchange for making abortion illegal, or conversely, if you could introduce strict gun controls but lose the legal right to abortion, would you vote for it?

Sign me up. That's a win-win for me, so maybe I'm not your target audience on this.

You should never negotiate away your rights. Once you do you have lost.

I'm not an American, so I won't vote in the poll, but personally if I lived in the US and had the right to vote I'm not sure what I would do. I guess it would depend on how much lives would be saved and damage would be avoided on either choice. My guess is that making abortion illegal would save the most amount of lives (and the most amount of innocent lives as well, which is not an insignificant factor), but there's also the question of whether you have the right to take away the right to self-defense from someone else because you think abortion should not be a thing.

If it was just a question of a hypothetical me living in the US personally giving up my hypothetical gun rights in order to make abortion illegal? I'd do it in a heartbeat.

But trading away, or limiting, the rights of everyone to bear arms in order to stop abortion? I don't trust my moral judgement enough to make that choice.

Well if you could make sure that no bad guys had guns, I might make the trade off for the sake of the unborn.

I don't usually like "either/or" choices, especially of this magnitude, and of such dissimilar effect.

There is almost never* a valid reason to kill innocent unborn children.
There ARE valid reasons to own guns.

Yeah if there were a world where there were NO Guns and NO abortion, that would be an easy choice.

My thoughts exactly. Once you put basic rights on the table as a bargaining chip, you're in a no-win situation.

Depends on what you mean by "strict gun control". That would be hard for me as hunting is my main outdoor hobby. It's the one of the few things that my oldest son and I share together, as well as a life long friend and I share. As much as I am pro-life, that's a BIG ask for me. I would have to think long and hard on it.

That should be a third choice.

I vote for very strict abortion limits (a la CP) and stronger gun rights protection.

Yes to making abortion illegal. The life of a child is worth more than the right to own a firearm.

How bout rigidly enforcing all gun laws already on the books, and no abortions?
