    No big surprise here.

So it will be interesting to see how this plays out...

Trump's panicking because the rumors say Mueller's about to indict Donald Trump Jr.

The now acting-AG authored an opinion piece against Mueller, in case the reasons for replacing Sessions weren't obvious.

Of course they're obvious. The drover's dog knows that Trump is running scared, with good reason to be scared I suspect.

So, I'm curious. If Trump and Whitaker fire Rosenstein and Mueller (which seems likely), when the 116th Congress is sworn in, do they have the authority to engage him as a special investigator for the House of Representatives? Has that ever been done before?

I'm finding myself wondering if Trump isn't setting the stage to fire Mueller so that the Democrats react and start impeachment proceedings. There is essentially no chance of an impeachment succeeding in the Senate, and the spectacle of the impeachment would meet one of Trump's criteria for keeping the media focused on him. It might also rally the right to his defense and make him a sympathetic character to the right.

Personally, I think it would be a serious mistake for the new house to move forward on articles of impeachment. I hope they are not that stupid. They need to hold the course - move forward with common sense legislation, and focus on 2020.

Pretty much agree, but often hatred overrides judgment, and some of the Dems have such hatred for Trump that all bets are off that they won't do something really stupid.

Trump has about 3 months to do what he can to prevent the exposure of whatever he's been hiding that the GOP has let slide. I expect to see a lot of over the top moves from him the next 3 months.

Eh, given that Trump was largely silent regarding competitive House races (but went all-in on the Senate), I don't think he was exactly blindsided by the result. I'm sure he and his team have been planning for this for months. I don't expect to see any more over the top moves than usual.

Highly doubtful. But Trump did provide clues when he mentioned the expense of the investigation that he might seek to trim its budget to encourage it to stay on track

I seriously doubt that Trump will need to do anything to encourage the Democrats to start impeachment proceedings

Hopefully you're wrong. It would be a serious mistake, IMO.

If Sessions had a spine and didn't let Dirty Cop Mueller's (possibly illegal since no crime was specified in his mandate) witch-hunt spin out of control then chances are, he would still have a job. Instead of rooting out corruption in the three letter departments, it seems Sessions did his part to cover it up. Some have speculated that he was the infamous "insurance policy" discussed in the Stzork/Page text messages, but there is, of course, no way to prove that without one of them outright admitting it.

One thing people keep underestimating is how much leverage Trump actually has. Next steps I would like to see are Rosenstein's proverbial head on the platter, and then a release of the unredacted documents exposing the corruption in our national justice and law enforcement departments.
