    *A stretch, I know...just wondering.
Most likely, given Fox has joined the rebuke of the action. There are ways to deal with Acosta's rudeness that do not send the message "If you ask questions we don't like we will punish you, and if you keep on asking questions we don't like, we will ban you". That just isn't how a free society functions.

Thanks for your concern, Jim, but I'm good, I promise.

The trend among Trump supporters and conservatives is to minimize everything he does that is off the rails.
I have said repeatedly that he often makes me cringe. I'm often ashamed at how he says things that are totally unnecessary, and I have repeatedly said I wish somebody would take his Twitter account from him. In the MEAN TIME, he is still POTUS, so I will pray for him, and hope there are better days ahead. HATING him does nobody any good.

I recognize and see instances of over-emphasis on the liberal side as well,....
What you seem NOT to recognize, Jim, is that you are sucked into a votex of hate which is not good for any Christian --- you are OBSESSED with hating Trump, and that's not good.

And, yeah, I'm fully prepared for your denials. You're completely logical and unbiased, and I'm a nutter.

That was an unabashed attempt to censor the press.
Even if Trump elected to ban CNN as a whole, there still wouldn't be a "constitutional crisis". The First Amendment does not guarantee access to the White House or any other government agency. Otherwise every two-bit newspaper in the country could sue for access. The only right CNN has in this matter is the right to say whatever it wants. As long as no government action is taken to censor what CNN publishes, then the First Amendment is safe.

Fox is returning the favor from when the rest of the press corp, including CNN, stood by them when Obama banned not just one reporter but the entire network from attending any and all press conferences (not just presidential ones but those done by agencies, bureau and departments in the federal government).

Not in those terms, of course, but your obsession on the Trump hating is quite concerning to me. Hate is like a cancer, Jim - it destroys from within.

That is your opinion. My opinion would be that CNN recognized the danger then just as Fox recognizes the danger now. IOW, the press understands that this sort of action is a threat to the press and to our democracy, and it overrides their ideological differences. It is a step too far, regardless of who the president is that does it.

Again, what danger? President Trump is not using legally questionable methods to punish CNN for publishing the "wrong" stories, or using Russian-like surveillance tactics to restrict journalists' information gathering methods, or threatening reporters with jail time if they refuse to divulge their confidential sources (all of which Obama actually did). Rather, he's simply told a well-known prima donna reporter to stay home. CNN retains its privilege to send any reporter it wants to cover the White House so long as his name is not Jim Acosta.

The non-trivial danger when Obama did it is the same as the non-trivial danger when Trump is doing it. The press understands it. But I can't help the fact you don't understand the importance of a free press to a free society or why the attempt to ban press organizations as Obama and Trump have done is a problem. But it is unlikely if you don't understand that at this point there is anything that I could say that would change that fact.

Which is why I think Fox is doing this now. Returning the favor.

You think Obama using the power of the government to legally threaten reporters who displeased him was a "non-trivial danger" to the First Amendment? Hardly. Trump banning a single reporter for acting like a pompous ass doesn't even come close to his predecessor's flagrant abuse of power.

I understand the importance of a free press. What you haven't done is show how Trump's actions are in any way a threat to that freedom.

                          • The whole narrative that Trump is trying to shut up the press because of their hard questions is nonsense. The reason Trump shut down Acosta was because after he was done answering what he wanted to and tried to move on, Acosta would not step down, and was rude and showed disrespect.

Trump is a narcissist. He expects and demands respect. And as President he actually deserves respect for the office. So when he is shown disrespect and impertinence, he goes off on that person. That is why Acosta lost his WH pass. Had nothing to do with 'the press' or censorship. Acosta had his time to ask several questions and when Trump wanted to move on, he just kept talking over Trump and the next reporter Trump was trying to move on to.

The WH had/has several avenues for dealing with the "Acosta problem." They could have asked CNN to replace him with someone else. They could have set a policy for all in attendance that each person got X and only X questions, and anyone breaking that rule would be escorted out by security. They could have more than one mike and simply turned his off at the sound system. I can think of several other approaches.

Ultimately, I think the only reason for barring a reporter is a genuine risk of harm/danger to the gathering. It's pretty hard for the WH to complain about boorish behavior when we have the Boor-in-Chief occupying the Oval Office.
