First of all, the other family members did not think he was a threat - at all. Second, they could have simply went to talk to him, maybe a couple of cops with a mental health person. They didn't, they went after his guns from the get go, all based on what ONE person said. No due process - just like the Soviet Union...

Well, if I thought my safety was threatened, I wouldn't really care what other family members might think, would you? Yes, they went after his guns and it was obvious by his reaction that in going after his guns they did exactly the right thing. The guy was a dangerous nut case and a threat.

Jim, I have lived with nut cases with guns, my cousin being one of them, and Norm, another friend (he ended up trying to kill himself not me thankfully), and I could tell you about Buffy and Terry (Vietnam Vets). Like I said, I would have had no problem with him having to see a mental health professional with an in depth interview with the police. No reason to start with a gun grab...

As far as I know only one person made the complaint, they acted on a single accusation. Not a series of accusation. It literally sounds like a he said she said. They wake him up at 5:17 am, and tell him they are about to take all his firearms. Then how does one get them back? Do you have to prove that you are not a threat? How does that work? Guilty until proven innocent...

I just want to point out the irony in this thread. The liberals in this thread are defending the police shooting and killing a citizen in his own home and Seer and lipix are defending the citizen and claiming the police were overstepping and misusing their authority and power.

Mental health professionals are surprisingly easy to fool if you're clever and know what they want to hear. The popular notion that psychiatrists are effectively omniscient and can know what anybody is really thinking simply by talking to them and observing their behavior is pure television fantasy.
