In Democratic circles, anti-Semitism is becoming normal

As people scramble to explain the sudden resurgence of socialism not only on America’s college campuses but also in the corridors of political power, it is worth noting the concomitant resurgence of anti-Semitism in those redoubts. The coincidence is not, as the Marxists like to say, an accident. The truth is that unfettered socialism, though based primarily on a demand for the abolition of private property, always comes riding on a current of anti-Semitism. Picking apart the conceptual reasons for this link is a complex business that I will leave aside here. But it is worth noting how impeccable a provenance the union enjoys. Consider this observation:
What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money. . . . Emancipation from huckstering and money, consequently from practical, real Judaism, would be the self-emancipation of our time [and would] make the Jew impossible. . . . In the final analysis, the emancipation of the Jews is the emancipation of mankind from Judaism.

Louis Farrakhan in his ‘Jews are termites’ mode? Nope. That’s old Karl himself in his classic anti-Semitic effusion of 1843, ‘On the Jewish Question.’

It’s worth keeping Marx’s views in mind as you ponder the rise of figures like Ilhan Omar, the young and comely Somali refugee who just took Keith Ellison’s House seat in Minnesota. Like many new Democrats, Omar was nurtured by the far-left Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. ‘Israel has hypnotized the world,’ Omar said on Twitter, ‘may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.’

Then there is the man she replaced, Keith Ellison, now the Attorney General-elect of Minnesota. ‘We can’t allow another country to treat us like we’re their ATM,’ Ellison said of Israel. ‘That country has mobilized its Diaspora in America to do its bidding in America.’

And let’s not forget the Democrat ‘It Girl’ herself, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has gone back and forth on the question of whether Israel has a right to exist at all but has been as never-varying as Dewar’s Scotch in referring to Israel’s ‘occupation’ of Palestine.

The efflorescence of anti-Semitism is always a bad sign in a culture, not least because it harbingers a spirit of thuggish intolerance and breakdown of faith in society’s mediating civil institutions. The old saw of being ‘anti-Israel, not anti-Jew’ does not quite ring true here, as the lefties’ language echoes the anti-Semitic tropes of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

Being against the current apartheid/right-wing government in Israel, isn't remotely the same as being anti-Semitic, anymore than right-wingers being against Obama made them "anti-American". It's just silly to conflate that.

      as never-varying as Dewar’s Scotch
The oddest product placement I've ever seen.

Democrats tolerance of Farrakhan is odious. I don't see much difference in Ellison's vs. Trump's statements on the US paying bills for other people. They're both thoughtless--foreign aid makes us more secure than an equal amount of dollars on defense spending--but like the tolerance of Farrakhan, these sorts of statements by politicians like Ellison are designed to appeal to a base that elected them.

Islam has been trying to destroy Israel and Jews for a pretty long time now. It isn't just a secular government thing.

And since the in-thing to do in liberal circles is to embrace muslims in an effort to appear inclusive, it means they need to appease them by opposing Israel and Jews.

And in an ironic twist, they are the ones calling Trump and conservatives "Nazis"

Not just Islam, but many Arabs, as well.

They are throwing the Jews under the bus in exchange for the growing Muslim community which they figure will provide more votes.

I remember how back in 2000 the MSM was all aflutter over how those bigoted conservative Christians would be unable to tolerate Joseph Lieberman running for Vice President as Al Gore's running mate because he is Jewish. But it turned out that they were fine with it and it was from the left that opposition based on his religion surfaced. They actually called on him to sign a loyalty oath confirming that his allegiance was to the U.S. rather than Israel. IIRC, Jesse Jackson was one of those supporting it.

                  ?!?

The policies of the current secular government of Israel are widely viewed as being apartheid, much as the policies of the government of South Africa once were.

The survival of Jews as a people-group is not under threat, with a huge number of people with Jewish ancestry and/or people observing Jewish cultural/religious traditions living in America and elsewhere.

To the extent that there are some zealots within the current nation of Israel who are passionate about their nation and its patriotic defense, there are also some zealots within Gaza who are passionate about their people and their defense. My general view is that both have badly, badly, wronged each other over time, and both are generally impediments to peace and co-existence.

You realize about 75% of US Jews vote Democrat right? They don't think Democrats are anti-Semitic.

Perhaps you think they should instead vote Republican and embrace the Evangelical end-times goal of causing a literal biblical Armageddon (in which most Jews are supposed to die per the prophesy) via military support for a controversial nation in the Middle East?

We tend to agree as regards this particular topic. Muslims are notoriously anti-semitic. And not just because Israel was formed and displaced Muslim peoples. In Islam, there are three 'People of the book'. The Muslims (the highest, best ones), the Christians (a distant second) and the Jews (bottom of the rung, barely above the infidel). It forms a sort of religious 'caste' system. And as anyone knows, anytime one people explicitly defines another people as 'below' them in some critical sense, there will be discrimination and oppression.

Anti-semitism also has a very long history in western nations as well a result of the 'jew killers' concept which developed in Catholic circles and spread to Protestants. Luther was horribly anti-semitic.

Anti-semitism has very deep roots in so many cultures. Just when you think maybe it has gone the way of the dodo, it often rises from the ashes finds new life in some new expression of the same old hatred. And that is one reason why it is so important the Jewish people have a homeland. Israel.

My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19

Given, as you outline, Muslim peoples have tended to be pretty nasty toward Jewish people, why would you think a good solution is to put a Jewish nation literally smack-bang in the middle of the Muslim world and surrounded by Muslim nations?

Jews would be much better off living in the US where they aren't surrounded by their enemies than living in the Middle East surrounded by Muslims.
