In a Venn Diagram you put attributes that are common to both circles in the overlapping area, and non-shared attributes in the non-overlapping area. So "appointment authority" etc need to be listed in the center overlap not duplicated in both non-overlaps... the duplication should be a hint that they're doing it wrong.

Also, the "Both Administrations, Same powers" should be the title above the diagram, not in the overlap, as it's a statement about what point the diagram is making not a listing of common attributes.

Various people on twitter have been amused:

"As a math teacher I would like to thank you for creating a real-world example on how NOT to construct a Venn diagram."

"I ask this seriously: Is one of the future governor's powers the ability to correctly deploy a Venn diagram?"

"Does that Venn diagram really just list the same things on each side? Instant contender for bad chart hall of fame."

"Ironic or intentional that they misused a Venn diagram? Pro tip: the middle part is what's similar, the left and right sides are what's different."

"I will give $100 to the first journalist who asks Walker if he was too intimidated to announce this in Madison. $200 if you also ask him to define what a Venn diagram is."

"I mean, the #WisconsinPowerGrab is clearly just awful. But starting in January, at least we'll have a new governor who knows what a proper Venn Diagram should look like..."

Scott Walker is such a moron. Him standing beside a Venn Diagram that is completely not one sums up his IQ well. Reminds me of when Paul Ryan did a similar thing with a poster about insurance that showed he had no clue how insurance works. Republicans make moronicness an art form.
That's marketing for you. Looks nice, gets his intended point across, not technically a Venn diagram because the sides are basically identical.

AOC's misrepresentation of GOP's points said against her isn't making her look any smarter, either. Running afoul of House ethics [b]before she's even sworn in[/] is sort of worse than "slipped on a word."

The only people that seem to think this actually happened seems to be a few Republicans. There is no ethics investigation into this, never mind any actual finding of wrongdoing. Are congresspeople even bound by those ethics rules prior to being sworn in and swearing to uphold them? Seems unlikely.

AOC enjoys trolling the Republicans, and frankly it's both fun to watch her do it, and serves a very useful public service of reminding the public that the emperor has no clothes.

        As Nate Silver put it:

"There are lots of reasons Ocasio-Cortez drives certain Republicans crazy, foremost among them her race and gender. But it's also that she's quintessentially a New Yorker and DC political culture is formal and prudish when NYC mostly isn't those things.

Put differently, New Yorkers are very good at trolling, and Washington has extreme troll-vulnerability. It's always made for a mismatch but more pronounced now that we're in the Golden Age of Trolling. We may need to move the capital back to Philly to keep it a fair fight."

That's rather pedantic. It seems to me the point of it is to argue that, contrary to what people are claiming, the powers of the governor are going to remain the same. The usage of the Venn diagram, normally used to draw differences and similarities, is used to emphasize the (alleged) lack of differences.

...okay, there's a distinct chance they're not being that smart about it. Still seems a goofy thing to complain about even if they aren't, though.

~90% of their diagram is wrong in terms of how it's laid out. They got the existence of the circles right, that's basically all.

It seems to me the point of it is to argue that, contrary to what people are claiming, the powers of the governor are going to remain the same.
Yep, they could have done that by having a slide saying that, no circles or pseudo-Venn diagram required. His slide would be 100% fine (truth of content aside) if it didn't have the circles.

FWIW, I tend to assume that Scott Walker is utterly lying through his teeth as far as the facts are concerned in terms of the powers of the governor remaining the same. The whole point of this disgusting and evil and anti-democratic legislative coup is to strip powers from the newly elected democrats. The Republicans in Wisconsin and Michigan should be literally tarred and feathered and run out of town while the entire states line the street chanting "shame, shame, shame" at them.

The fact that they are utter and complete morons who wouldn't know how to use a Venn diagram if they were following instructions provided by a Venn diagram is simply the icing on the cake. And AOC is right to troll them for it.

Uh, she did a little more than merely "slip on a word". Even if we allow that "chambers" was slip when she should have said "branches", she still misidentified what the three branches of government are. And her explanation of why we have low unemployment was so wacky that even you found it necessary to significantly change what she said just to make sense of it.

To generously give her a pass while railing on Scott Walker is rather hypocritical, doncha think? Oh, that's right, you don't think.

Oh, he thinks - he's just a bit partisan, is all. Can you imagine him quoting Nate Silver saying something similar about a certain other New Yorker in high office? Me either.

I agree. However, railing on Ocasio-Cortez for the chambers comment while giving Scott Walker a pass is equally hypocritical.

Not really, I've seen enough of both of them to rate AOC as smart and Scott Walker as a complete moron. My view is not based on a few random anecdotes but on prolonged observation.

I was grateful for each and every job because it gave me the money to eventually finish school and get a better job.

You seem to think Jobs are like some commodity or product that employers create and sell the bad ones to poor people and keep the good ones for rich people. That's not how jobs work, PM. A company starts up and need workers. some of the jobs will be low end and drudgery. Or physically hard. But they are needed to create the product the company sells. So they advertise for people to work them. People then choose to work there and do the job. If they don't like it, they go somewhere else.

And people have different skills and enjoy different things. Some people might like a mindless factory job where they can just do the same thing over and over all day. Others might hate it. What is a bad job for one person could be a good job for someone else. When I was working outside at the KOA campground, I would have loved a nice air-conditioned job at walmart.
When an employer thinks they need workers, they make a lot of decisions about the job opening. First, they calculate if they are going to be making money by hiring someone and how much. They then decide how much the job pays, what the hours are, what the working conditions are, whether there are benefits, how long they need the job for, and what future they see in the company for that employee.

If that employer doesn't care about their employee and/or is greedy, they will make that job a bad job. They may keep the vast majority of the money that employee generates. They may give the employee way too many hours so as to prevent a healthy work/life balance or so few hours that the employee isn't making enough to live on. They may not provide a safe work environment, either in terms of physical safety or in terms of a hostile work environment. They may not offer any benefits (this being the result of scorn/greed is dependent upon the job and not applicable to every job). They may intend to fire that employee at a certain point and never let them know. They may want to deny that employee, regardless of performance, a raise or promotion.

Not one of these decisions has anything whatsoever to do with the employee's choices or attitude. They are all entirely dependent upon the employer and how they treat their employees. You also say that employees can leave if they aren't happy. You are not taking into account how many jobs are available and how the job the employee leaves compares to the other jobs available. Maybe this job is the only game in town (for that employee's qualifications/skill level). Maybe all the companies offering that job have similar bad conditions. It is wrong to assume the best case scenario for every employee and then to chastise them when they find themselves in bad circumstances.
