Amnesty in a country with the same language and culture as the one they left should have been very acceptable if they were fleeing danger as refugees. Instead they wanted to push on to the USA, a country that doesn't want them, where they will not have any jobs, can't get asylum, can't speak the language and don't know the culture.

What's the old saying? Beggars can't be choosers? Well apparently "refugees" can.

Your point is weakened somewhat by the fact that there are already so many of them here that they'll easily be able to find a similar culture, speaking the same language, with a decent possibility of getting a job.

IOW, joining those who have no desire whatsoever of assimilating.

I'm always still in trouble again

Pretty much. My great-grandparents emigrated from Germany in the early 1900s. My grandmother grew up speaking English, however; they refused to speak German in the home, let alone outside of it.

true. But pretty much the only jobs they can get are by waiting in lines until some farmer or contractor drives by and loads them into the back of a pickup truck to work in the hot sun for less than minimum wage.

My 6th grade teacher was an avowed Marxist. She said the melting pot concept was racist and we should instead strive to be a tossed salad. She never grasped how that seems to eventually lead to Balkanization.

                  Back to Miss Ocasio-Cortez...

"Democratic socialist wunderkind Ocasio-Cortez compares her election to landing on the moon and wiring America for electricity saying 'we've done what we thought was impossible'." Well if her being elected is on par with landing on the moon then Bernie Sanders, the first Democrat-Socialist, must be the man on the moon given he's been in Congress nearly 30 years (before she was born).

And AFAICT nobody thought wiring the country for electricity was impossible but rather was a goal.

Landing on the Moon wasn't even considered impossible, or at least it wasn't when the space program was started. It was a major technical challenge, yes, especially given our state of technology at the time, but it certainly wasn't thought to be impossible.

She wasn't referring specifically to her election, but to the multiple elections of freshmen representatives like herself that happened at once. I think it's a goofy comparison, but pointing to Bernie Sanders doesn't refute her point.

We see a bunch of freshmen coming to Congress every two years so that's hardly earth shattering. And it should be noted that the vast majority of those that she endorsed (i.e., those that she considered to be like herself) did not fare very well. Many if not most didn't even survive the primaries.

Haha is this going to be like Obama all over again where conservative rags avoid the real issues and focus on "flubs"?
