So, I'm curious to know, what is the reaction to the North Carolina election situation?
I was trying to watch Bush's funeral train on CNN when all they could talk about was North Carolina!

I don't know about the rest of the State but here in my county, the early voting polls are set the same as the regular Tuesday polls. And, they are open every weekday for 2 weeks. Why not just make it a 2 week vote instead of a 2 weeks and one day vote?

My Wife, my daughter and I all walked in to the early voting poll, showed our ID's were escorted right to a booth and voted all within minutes. Easy Peasy!

They may have been Democrat voters, or they may not have been, and the ballots may have been destroyed, or they may not have been. Nobody seems to know.

...we don’t know the extent of what occurred. It is clear that third parties collected absentee ballots from voters, which is explicitly illegal under North Carolina law even if no one tampered with the ballots after collecting them. We do not know, however, whether any ballots were thrown away or changed.

I understand MM. I noted that I initially didn't notice that this was a NEW instance of potential fraud in the same district around the same candidate (my bad for assuming it was the same case). IOW, if this new allegation is substantiated, then there was a two pronged attack, both adding and subtracting absentee ballots. I was referencing the 'stuff the ballets' prong which has been in the news a little while now and it looks pretty bad for Dowless.

A lot of the accusations of fraud in Florida was linked to absentee ballots too.

Since voting is essential to our very government, we should try to ensure it isn't being abused by anyone.
Yeah - I don't understand the Democratic aversion to requiring an ID. Just educate your base on how to get and use one. And there is a good case to be made that someone not capable of that isn't really qualified to vote anyway. Just don't change the ID law a month before the actual election!

If they really cared about them, I think that would be their approach.
If they simply want to use them as a political football, however...

Even folks like Bill Clinton and Civil Rights icon Andrew Young have voiced their support for requiring them.

I think the trick there is just don't put the requirement up close to an actually election. Get it done a year or so out and publicize it ad nauseum. Especially from the GOP to make sure there is no possibility of being accused of trying to use it to disenfranchise voters.

The solutions actually are rather simple if you aren't actually trying to manipulate the results.

Once again I recommend what we do here in Georgia which has easily withstood every legal test to the point that nobody even tries challenging it.

If someone says that they for whatever reason can not afford one then one will be issued free of charge.

If you say it is to inconvenient for you to get one someone will come to your residence and issue you one.

No fuss. No muss. No excuses.

if they can just make you one at your house, that seems pretty easy to fake.

I would hope it's some kind of fancier badge maker with maybe a hologram imprint or something.

still, someone could easily steal the machine and blanks and take it home and make fake IDs.

You can get a fake ID in just about any sizeable bar in Texas.

They're essentially the same as a Driver's License which includes two holograms (I think that's the right word) of your picture
