Deeper Waters Forum Guidelines

Notice – The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

Deeper Waters is founded on the belief that the Christian community has long been in the shallow end of Christianity while there are treasures of the deep waiting to be discovered. Too many in the shallow end are not prepared when they go out beyond those waters and are quickly devoured by sharks. We wish to aid Christians to equip them to navigate the deeper waters of the ocean of truth and come up with treasure in the end.

We also wish to give special aid to those often neglected, that is, the disabled community. This is especially so since our founders are both on the autism spectrum and have a special desire to reach those on that spectrum. While they are a special emphasis, we seek to help others with any disability realize that God can use them and that they are as the Psalmist says, fearfully and wonderfully made.

MLPFIM is more eviller than Pokemon. Clearly satanic and corrupting our youth and even our Christian adults like Nick.

I think we should stay away from Harry Potter on the basis that it's just crappy fiction.

Eh, it was okay. I've read much worse.

In sadder news, I have read that Phil Arms got in trouble with his church for taking money from the coffers to fulfill a prescription drug addiction. Something tragic. Apparently, he wasn't very repentant about it either.

This post is way too long to post here. Readers will have to go to the original blog post.
              He's obviously an uninformed goof.

Personally, as a fan of sci-fi and superheroes, I think those genres have more potential to harm Christian worldviews. Wormhole prophets, Vorlons and Shadows, "I have sent them you, my only son" (to Kal-el).

I remember fundy furor over all the "subtle eastern mysticism" promoted by Star Wars when it first debuted.

My opinion on Harry Potter is not going to be popular on this message board so I tend to keep it to myself, but suffice it to say that it's something that I'm not comfortable with as a Christian. But then I'm the guy who refuses to play DnD on the basis that "gods" are characters in the game, so I'm used to being in the minority.

I ended up being okay with LoTR on the basis that it portrays magic as something to be avoided, for the record.

Uh....LoTR had a lot of magic in it. Good and bad FYI

When I was a DM when playing D&D I referred to the "gods" as "powers" who had followers rather than worshipers.

Did you read the Narnia stories?

Eh, I wouldn't say it has a lot; magic use is fairly clearly out of the norm in the world. It's difficult to come away from LoTR with the idea that magic is a good thing. Even most of the "good" magic tends to either be corrupted or corrupt others.

Yeah, it's been awhile. I don't remember the specifics of how magic worked in that universe well enough to comment on that aspect just to be honest.
