  • Denmark's Devil’s Island...

Even the tolerant Danes are getting fed up with this nonsense...

Denmark's government has struck a deal to move "unwanted" migrants to a remote uninhabited island once used for contagious animals.

As part of a growing anti-immigration agenda, Danish immigration minister Inger Støjberg, of the center-right Venstre party, wrote on Facebook that certain people "are unwanted and they will feel it."

The controversial deal is part of a new finance bill for 2019 agreed between the center-right government and the Danish People's Party (DPP), a populist right-wing party with anti-immigration policies.
DPP immigration spokesperson Martin Henriksen told CNN:

"Our hope ... is that people outside Denmark will understand that Denmark is not a very attractive place to seek asylum, if you are of refugee background, mean to cause harm, or incite crime."

Let's not miss the details about who we are talking about:

According to a government statement, the new center will house migrants who have what is known as "tolerated stay" status, meaning they do not have a residence permit but cannot be deported for other reasons, including threats to their life if they are sent home; those who are set to be deported due to criminal activity or for national security reasons; and foreign fighters and rejected asylum seekers convicted of breaking certain laws.
One can agree or disagree but it is important to know who those "certain" people are.

    https://edition.cnn.com/2018/12/05/e...ntl/index.html

There is an even more detailed explanation in the government statement:

The residents of the return center will be foreigners, who due to criminality, national security concerns or other relevant reasons are excluded from residence permit as refugees, but who cannot be returned to their country of origin due to the risk of ill-treatment (foreigners on so-called tolerated stay). Furthermore, it includes foreigners who are expelled due to criminality and who have served their prison sentence, but where they and/or their country of origin refuse to cooperate on their return. It also includes foreign fighters without Danish nationality. Finally, the return center will also accommodate rejected asylum seekers, who are sentenced for violations of the Criminal Code, the Act on weapons and firearms, the Act on knives or the Act on controlled substances in or around a return center.

I remember when all of the mid-eastern refugees were flooding out and every country was taking them in and people were complaining because the USA didn't want to take in these refugees and everyone pointed to Denmark and Sweden as the glowing example of how these refugees should be treated and how well they were integrating into the society.

      Trump was right again.

You may have missed this part:

These facilities will be cleared and an immigration center with an initial capacity of 100 residents built in their place.
Don't forget proportions here. Very many innocent people have been giving hope, future and a chance to live their life in peace. There were of course some bad people among them but I wonder why ones first focus would be on those instead of those in need of help.

            I don't get your point.

There must be quite a number of bad people if they have to set up a whole new policy and location to deal with them. 100 seems to just be the initial setup. If there were just 100 people they could just arrest them when they did bad things.

This sounds like a prison colony. They are basing it on Australia, where the Brits sent their prisoners and unwanted.

You don't go to all that trouble for a handful of troublemakers, Charles.

Well, I assume you did not read the goverment statement:

The return center is expected to have a capacity of 100 residents with the possibility of housing a further 25 residents.
So, as I said, don't forget proportions. You said: "You don't go to all that trouble for a handful of troublemakers, Charles." Perhaps they do it for symbolic reasons? Perhaps they expected and hoped for the exact reaction we saw from you?

The tolerant Danes would necessarily not be supporters of a center-right government or a populist right-wing party.

Reading that statement, it seems that the Island is not a permanent residence but houses a "Return Center" where the unwanted will be housed until they can be sent away or back to their country. A reverse Ellis Island. And it seems to be additional to two other existing centers.

The residents in the center will be subject to the same restrictions as those in the two existing centers. The residents are not detained. They are free to leave the island, and a ferry service will be provided. Knowledge of their whereabouts, however, ensures an effective return to the country of origin as soon as a forced return becomes possible. Therefore they are obliged to live at the center and report on a daily basis.

So yeah, it would be overkill to set up that entire system if there were only going to be 100 people.

The right wing are infamously intolerant of people different from them, so there's nothing to wear thin in the first place.

So now Denmark, one of the shining examples of left-wing socialism is "right wing?"

Someone walks into your home, spits in your face, steals your stuff, disrespects your family, are you intolerant if you throw them out?

Absolutely. Unless the person is a white racist (but I repeat myself); then you're just doing what's right.
