The IGB had nothing to do with the East Berlin residents' ability to leave East Berlin for any other part of the country, or the Soviet Bloc for that matter.

What you are not realizing JimL is that Berlin was smack in the middle of East Germany, so the wall was around WEST BERLIN, which was in the middle of EAST Germany.

That's what began the debate, i.e. with BtC, who claimed that the wall was built to keep W. berliners in W. Berlin, when in actuality the Wall was built to keep E. Berliners out of W. Berlin to where they had been fleeing in the millions prior to the building of the Wall.

A simple barrier in the form of a much cheaper fence reinforced by extra trained personnel and technology etc is more effective than a 70 billion dollar wall. A big beautiful Trumpian wall will not move the nation forward to needed reform of the US immigration system. But this seems to be of no interest to you. Your only concern seems to be to keep these dirty brown people out altogether, to paraphrase Tucker Carlson on Fox.

Walls have NOTHING to do with racism or vanity and everything to do with securing a sovereign nation, again, which you lefties have no interest in. All you care about is having a wave of ready-made Democrat voters dependent on the government dime for welfare and shelter from deportation.
