Re: The Quilting Thread
I figured out how to work my digital camera a little better, and have a bigger picture of my stained glass poppy quilt. Should be able to see it more clearly now.....

Re: The Quilting Thread
I finally finished the placemats and runner that I made for my niece's wedding gift......the wedding I was planning to go to until the airline crashed!!!!

So I had to mail it instead. Here are a couple of pics.......The colours look kind of washed out in the pictures, they are really quite intense blues......

Re: The Quilting Thread
Okay. I finally got my act together and pulled out MY Flower Garden quilt. This is a queen size quilt, the same pattern as the one in the very first picture in this thread.
It still isn't quilted. Some day........
.......when there is no cat fur to get on the black parts.....
I adore these colours......the blacks and roses and greens and so on.....

It is SO my favourite of all the whole 4 I have done up to now. I am keeping this one for myself!

Re: The Quilting Thread
Just an interesting note about quilting:
In the mid-nineties when "tolerance" was the ultimate virtue in life, the CIA had its operatives making - get ready for it - "diversity quilts". This was supposedly to make them more tolerant of others in their overseas assassination assignments or undermining of despotic regimes operations, etc.
Who knew quilting could be such a national security issue...
By the way - nice work mossrose...

Re: The Quilting Thread
Here is the baby quilt I just this minute finished. It is for my nephew's baby boy. I love the Winnie the Pooh fabric, and the way the colours all go so nicely with that Pooh central theme. They aren't traditional baby colours, but I think they lend a sort of vintage look to the quilt.
Now I have to do another one. For the other nephew's baby boy. The 2 nephews happen to be brothers, otherwise I would have done both quilts in the same fabric. But I didn't want them to get the quilts mixed up, so have chosen brighter, more crayon-box colours for the second quilt.
Will post pics of that one when it is done!

Now my niece is pregnant! With a boy!

I want to do a girly quilt!

Re: The Quilting Thread
Wow they are awesome
so I started some quilts A___________________Long time ago and occassionally
I get them out and do a bit more
you will see from the pics they are all geometric (Hexagon) and therefore handsewn
that means they take a little time to get anywhere,
so my plan was to EVENTUALLY complete them as bedspreads specifically for my two daughters but also my two sons should they decide to marry, (should they not they can of course still have them,) but they take so long, and I run out of imagination when it comes to colour matching etc so its probably just as well they are all under 8 as I'll need that long to complete 1 let alone 4.
so .....
a) Should I continue with them and if so any advice on quickening the process?
b) should I just give up
and give them away to someone who can complete what I started,
c) if I give them away what other personal present could I make for my children
multicoloured flowers

blue/black/cerise pink block
[attachment=2]
small block of flowers
[attachment=3]
As you can see I have loads of "patches" already made

Re: The Quilting Thread
Wow, those are gorgeous! And a lot of work already put into them. They are the "real thing", in the sense that all quilts made up to the middle of the last century were likely all hand sewn and hand quilted!

I don't have any ideas on how to finish them more quickly. But it seems a shame to not finish them. I would take one to the nearest quilting shop and show it to someone there, and see if they have any ideas on how to speed up the process.
Or, check online. There are zillions of sites that would be able to give you advice on how to do it.
If you decide not to finish them, there are a lot of options for doing other quilts that can all be machine sewn and quilted. The 2 baby quilts I did pictured here are both the Log Cabin design, which is incredibly easy. I put the blocks together in that particular design, but there are a lot of different ways to put the blocks together to get different looks.
And instructions for that block as well as hundreds of others, many of them really easy are online, or at the library!
Sorry I couldn't give you any more help than that.

Re: The Quilting Thread
I learned a new pattern! Originally called "Bali Glass", designed by the owner of our local quilting store, I have adapted it to use Christmas fabric. I will do some with the Bali fabric, because I LOVE Bali, but had to get some Christmas ones done.
This is the first. There will be another Christmas one eventually.

Re: The Quilting Thread

This is actually one of the easiest and fastest quilts I have ever done. Much less work than most of the others I have tried.
