Enter the Church and wash away your sins. For here there is a hospital and not a court of law. Do not be ashamed to enter the Church; be ashamed when you sin, but not when you repent. – St. John Chrysostom

This would give the desired impression without being an actual lie.
What I am getting from this is that Phillips decided to walk into the students, I have no idea why, there are conflicting stories. Most of the kids seemed to step back as he approached which encouraged him to keep moving. But that one kid stood his ground and didn't move. At that point Phillips just stood there banging his drum trying to intimidate him into moving.

So - the reason that I question the stories as told by the young man is videos like the one associated with this story. It clearly shows, at several points, Phillips together with many of the kids in fairly close proximity, and all of them engaging in what appears to be a friendly exchange. At one point, Sandmann can be seen in the background - away from Phillips.
So the open question is, how did it go from that dynamic to the "in-your-face" dynamic of the initially published video?
And yes, I note that the kids engaging with Phillips initially, and not "in his face" seem to be the kids NOT wearing the MAGA hats. But when the "in-your-face" segment begins, they are in greater evidence. Given Trump's demonstrated disdain, tendency to ridicule and try to intimidate - I have to wonder to what degree that was the approach taken.
But there is no "hard evidence" here for either view, IMO.The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy...returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Martin Luther King

Still, even declaring to be from the Vietnam era or "from Vietnam times" when he was in fact too young to serve at that time reeks of Stolen Valor fakery à la Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.)

Apparently, the closest thing to that is the 75th Ranger Regiment Reconnaissance Company but it wasn't established until 1984, or 11 years after the war ended.
