They would like to get it if they can. The basic idea is that the Great Depression was a big challenge which FDR rose to meet with the New Deal - taxation of the rich to fund social spending, and Climate Change is the big challenge of our generation so we should rise to meet it with a similar series of bold policies - taxation of the rich to fund strong investment in green tech and green jobs.

Keep telling yourself that they're "misquotes." The fact is she keeps screwing up in the very short time in the public eye. If it were Trump you'd be vehemently denouncing her screw ups as lies.

You're right Star! She's doing a FANTASTIC job! I hope she never changes.

She is doing a fantastic job. Her polling favorables are through the roof and she's attracting young people to the democratic party by the boatload. She's got the biggest social media following and is giving fellow Dems courses in how to use social media properly. She's personable, charismatic, policy-focused, progressive, intelligent and quick-witted, pretty much everything I could wish for in a politician - she might well be the single best politician overall I have ever seen in my life in any country. Presumably she'll get even better with experience. She's got a very bright career ahead of her - hard to imagine her not being president one day.

I think I saw today where you got this crazy end of the stick from. In an interview she said she would like the US to aim to be carbon neutral in 12 years.

Being carbon neutral, aka being a "net zero carbon emitter", is not at all the same as emitting zero carbon, it means that carbon emissions be balanced by carbon absorption. As you may be aware, plants absorb CO2 out of the atmosphere as part of their growth, so all countries have quite large amounts of carbon absorption due to all their trees and forests and plants in general. There are also various technologies being developed and improved upon that can also take carbon out of the atmosphere and store it various ways, but currently trees are pretty much the most efficient. So in order to achieve net zero carbon emissions the US would want to (a) plant more trees, (b) transition the vehicle fleet from gas to electric, (c) transition the power grid from fossil fuels to renewables, etc.

Being carbon neutral / a net-zero carbon emitter has nothing to do with "NO cars or airplanes" as you put it.

That makes sense that that's what she meant to say, but whoever interviewed her tried to help her by rephrasing the question, but she kept doubling down. It appeared they were as incredulous as I was. Since I can't find the video - and I've really tried - I'll abandon the claim, but I know what I saw.

In the interview I saw, the interviewer treated the carbon neutral goal as meaning a transition to 100% electric cars within 12 years and so started asking about that.

She's pretty clear and well-informed about environmental issues and it's something she talks about a lot. I find it unlikely she would have mis-phrased it multiple times in a row.
