Let's play a game, see if you can figure out who the following quote is referring to (no fair using an internet search engine):

"I have never known a US president to be treated as disgracefully as this one. The political case against him is based almost entirely on media falsehoods, slanders, and greed for power. Not much rationality there."

Wrong, it's referring to George W. Bush.

Source: The psychopathology of Bush hatred

(2008) The Bush hatred we are seeing in the media today belongs in the long catalogue of human psychopathology -- not rational behavior. The latest version is the shoe-throwing incident in Iraq. Iraq happens to be a hot war zone, in which tens of thousands of innocent people have been killed by hidden bombs. Bush's protective detail had no way of knowing whether an assassinaton attempt was under way, in just the way Saddam tried to assassinate George H.W. Bush, Sr. At the end of his two terms of office, the President flew to Iraq, into harm's way, knowing the dangers, to hold an open press conference.

But our media harbor such bitter hatred for him that they turned a potential bomb-throwing incident --- by one of their own --- into a joke, just another reason to sneer at the President. If anybody threw a cream pie at Obama, screaming headlines would be launched for days afterward. Nothing but sneers followed the potential attack on George W. Bush, which he fended off with his usual grace and humor.

The New Republic published an editorial in 2003 making a case for hating Bush:

    Source: Mad About You

There seem to be quite a few of us Bush haters. I have friends who have a viscerally hostile reaction to the sound of his voice or describe his existence as a constant oppressive force in their daily psyche. Nor is this phenomenon limited to my personal experience: Pollster Geoff Garin, speaking to The New York Times, called Bush hatred “as strong as anything I’ve experienced in 25 years now of polling.” Columnist Robert Novak described it as a “hatred … that I have never seen in 44 years of campaign watching.”

    And remember this little gem?

Source: The left's hypocrisy: Remember 'Death of a President,' a movie about assassinating George W. Bush?

(2016) Remember “Death of a President”?

It was a movie about the imagined assassination of then President George W. Bush that premiered in 2006. It was directed by Gabriel Range, produced by a British public-television outlet, and at the time, was seriously critiqued by the mainstream media. It even won an award at the Toronto Film Festival.

So please, don't try to lecture us about how the left's current unhinged hatred of a Republican president is all Trump's fault.

I voted for Reagan. I voted for Bush I and Bush II, I voted against Clinton and Obama, both times. I know the difference between Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and Trump. Don't try to rewrite history or pretend this fellow is not orders of magnitude worse than anyone who has come before him as viewed from either a republican or democratic perspective. That is the difference MM. Whereas with Reagan, or the Bushes it might have been possible to dismiss the Media dislike as bias, with Trump it simply can't be. They don't have to invent things to be critical of, they don't have to focus on abortion or gay rights to find something to disagree with. Trump is so off in the weeds, he violates so many norms of decency and so many standards of what it means to be American that the reasons for their criticism can't be blamed on partisan bias.

Did anyone notice the number of Democrats who REFUSED to stand and applaud in favour of this undeniably decent request from Trump? Is it just their hatred of Trump displayed here, or of humanity in general?

He was shining a light on their culture of death, and they were too blinded to stand up.

You post wan't a correction. It was just yet another attempt to cover up Trump's excess by pretending that He is nothing new, and that the response to Him is nothing new.

If Andy is 'outraged' that Joe gives a child a candy bar - that is over the top.

If Andy is outraged that John gives a child a candy bar laced with cyanide, that is justified.

What you are doing is the equivalent of saying "Don't listen to Andy, there is nothing really wrong with John, see - Andy said the same things about Joe and he was a great guy!".

As I said earlier. The problem is that the source has no credibility. Anyone can pretend to want good things. And a bully can do that to make his critics look bad if the people he makes the appeal before have no memory, are his chums, or are simply ignorant of the fact he's a bully. It is, in fact, a classic bully move, to beat up on someone and then when a crowd appears to offer them a helping hand. And then when the beat up kid lying on the ground refuses to take his bullies hand, he is made to look bad to the ignorant crowd.

I was bullied a lot as a kid. I know a bully when I see one. And I know all the ignorant dupes they manipulate into thinking they are not so bad. That is you guys.

Stephen Colbert's comedy segment after the State of the Union was particularly hilarious, all the more impressive because his team only had about an hour to write it before he performed it...

Pelosi Outsmarted Herself on the SOTU

When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi withdrew her original State of the Union invitation, preventing President Trump from delivering the address as scheduled on January 29, she was probably surprised when he responded with such calm forbearance: “This is her prerogative. I will do the address when the shutdown is over.” By the time Trump finished the rescheduled speech Tuesday evening, she no doubt understood that her petty political ploy had been a blunder. Trump, being no mean showman, had long since realized that the highly publicized delay would increase public interest in the speech — and that is precisely what happened.

By the time he entered the House chamber, it was already obvious that the national audience would very likely exceed last year’s larger-than-usual viewership for such speeches. This is not typical for the SOTU address. The normal pattern is a reasonably large audience for a president’s first address, followed by a gradual decline in public interest each year thereafter. This was certainly true for Trump’s predecessor. Tuesday evening’s speech, however, drew a larger audience than did the President’s 2018 address. According to a report in the Hill, broadcast TV numbers from Nielsen show the audience share was 10 percent over last year’s speech:

The four major broadcast outlets — CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox — combined for a 16.3 overnight rating during the address Tuesday night, which could result in total viewership of approximately 49 million when final numbers, to include the cable news networks and other outlets, are in later Wednesday.

Moreover, CBS and CNN conducted polls of public reaction to Trump’s words and the vast majority of viewers liked what they heard. The CBS/YouGov poll found that 76 percent of the public approved of the address, including 97 percent of Republicans and a whopping 82 percent of Independents. And a majority of viewers agreed that the President accomplished one of his primary goals for the address — improving national unity. According to CBS, “Fifty-six percent of Americans who watched tonight feel the president’s speech will do more to unite the country.” On specific issues, an unambiguous majority of viewers agreed with the President......

I wasn't planning on watching the SOTUA, but did so out of curiosity how Trump would handle the delay and the drama.
