4 injured police officers are stable, city official says

The four police officers injured in this afternoon’s shooting at the Henry Pratt Company are “stable," Aurora spokesperson Clayton Muhammed told CNN affiliate WGN-TV.

There are reports of multiple wounded victims being received at area medical centers, though the extent of their injuries is not clear.

As I said on FB, I'm not understanding why this keeps happening. Are they not allowed to check for weapons? Or are security measures generally worthless these days?

On my installation, removed employees or military were always escorted and pretty much barred from entering the installation. Of course it didn't always work...a Marine managed to abduct and kill his ex at her place of work off base despite measures they had in place to protect the woman on and off base.

This guy's pistol should have been removed.

It later emerged that Martin was not legally allowed to own a gun because of a previous conviction for aggravated assault in Mississippi.

He bought the weapon he used in the attack, a Smith and Wesson .40-calibre handgun, in March 2011 after an initial background check failed to spot the felony from 1995.

It was only when he applied for a concealed carry permit five days later that his conviction was flagged and his firearm owner’s ID card was revoked.

Illinois State Police sent Martin a letter asking him to voluntarily surrender the weapon, but he did not, according to Aurora police chief Kristen Ziman.
