  • Democratic lawmaker announces plans to file impeachment resolution

    Source: https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/06/politics/rashida-tlaib-impeachment-resolution/index.html

Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib plans to file soon an impeachment resolution against President Donald Trump, the freshmen Democratic lawmaker from Michigan announced at a news conference Wednesday.

"Later on this month, I will be joining folks and advocates across the country to file the impeachment resolution to start the impeachment proceedings," said Tlaib, who has repeatedly called for Trump's impeachment.

She added, "I think every single colleague of mine agrees there's impeachable offenses. That's one thing that we all agree on. We may disagree on the pace."

Tlaib said during her news conference, "It's really important that the President of the United States is investigated in violations of the United States Constitution," highlighting in particular the emoluments clause, prohibiting gifts or benefits from foreign governments.

"We have to also look into how the President has obstructed justice," Tlaib said, pointing to the President's firing of former FBI director James Comey and saying that he has "basically been able to bully his way to get his way. It's not in the best interests of the American people."

And now Rep. Nadler is suggesting, contrary to the explicit language in the Constitution, that the President can be impeached even if he's never convicted of a crime.

"Crimes and impeachable offenses [are] two different things," he says.

Looks like the openly Socialist wing of the Democrats are lining up in support of Omar

Source: Democratic divide over Omar's remarks tests Pelosi's ability to unify caucus

House Democrats find themselves in one of the trickiest battles on Capitol Hill, trying to prove their unity in the fight against President Donald Trump and on core issues they campaigned on last year.

They had a remarkably effective first two months in the majority, defying Trump on his demand for a border wall and clearly winning the leftover budget battle from 2018. They passed a significant bill that would require expanded background checks on gun purchases. And they are poised to approve an expansive bill that would revamp ethics and electoral laws.

But those early wins are threatened by the growing controversy about how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., resolves the dispute with some outspoken first-term Democrats on issues related to Israel, an ideological and generational fault line that could end up sowing more division among Pelosi's ranks for the bigger fights ahead.

The focus is again on Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, and remarks about "loyalty" to Israel. After leadership signaled a willingness to advance a softly worded resolution related to anti-Semitism, Omar's allies rallied to her defense and accused Pelosi's leadership team of inappropriately singling out the Somali refugee.

Led by Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , D-N.Y., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., fellow freshman Democrats, Omar's defenders sidelined the original resolution, and now leaders are cobbling together a broader draft that would oppose many forms of offensive actions.

It may seem trivial - a nonbinding resolution expressing opposition to intolerance of all kinds - but this is a critical test for leadership to bring the caucus back together.

After Wednesday's closed-door meeting of Democrats erupted over the issue, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., tried to explain that the divisions only undermined the broader effort.

"Our diversity is our strength, our unity is our power. And whenever we have been unified, we've been successful," Jeffries, chairman of the caucus, told reporters. He cited the 2017 effort to defeat the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and the shutdown fight over Trump's border demands. "We're all clear that as long as we continue to remain unified around the core issues that we promised the American people we would address, then we're going to be successful."

House Democrats erupt in protests over indirect sanction of Rep. Omar for alleged anti-Semitism

Unity on those issues, however, might be determined by how this saga ends, particularly on climate change, health care and the potential constitutional showdown with Trump.

                  [*Story continues at link above*]

As noted this is a "softly-worded resolution" which is better described as mealy mouthed, a "nonbinding resolution expressing opposition to intolerance of all kinds" and yet the Democrats are fracturing over it. Then again Socialist like the National Socialist German Workers' Party have a long history of hating Jews.

Impeachment is like an indictment. Obviously, the legislative body needs to see evidence of punishable behavior if they are going to do anything. In the news media at least, evidence of wrong doing is growing steadily. A big question is whether Trump will turn out to be a bigger criminal than Nixon. Probably not, I think, but only because Nixon was very, very bad.

What Nixon did was wrong, but Watergate is only a huge deal because the news media managed to take down a president they hated and long to repeat their success with every Republican administration that comes along.

When Democrats refer to "impeachment", what they mean is "conviction and removal from office". Unless you really believe that nutcases like Maxine "'peach Trump!" Waters is asking merely for a formal indictment that could lead to the president being cleared of all charges.

They might get indictment. With the information sieve surrounding Trump, the odds of finding an impeachable offense this far down the road are vanishingly small.

That's how it SHOULD work. But the lefties in the House don't seem to want to wait for actual evidence. Innuendo and outright hatred seem to suffice.

High crimes and misdemeanors are the only items the Constitution allows for articles of impeachment. The media can't charge anyone with those things, no matter how much they twist the actual facts.

The Republicans Called for Impeachment on Bill Clinton for less than Watergate. And the Republican's have pretty well been deflecting on Hillary Clinton for a whole lot less than anything Donald Trump is quite guilty of. But no matter to them. Most of the far right wants to over look the finance mismanagement, the directions to lie, the firing of Comey to protect the campaign's from investigation the Moscow negotiations for the Trump tower, the problems with security clearances, the issues between Trump and Kim Jong-Un, etc etc etc because they believe that putting up with All that corruption and criminality will over turn Roe v Wade.
