  • One Hope Movement

Some of us (locally) have been talking about the possibility of an area-wide Revival service.

We were thinking about something in the Spring of 2021, because it takes LOTS of planning and prayer.

Then I got an email from onehopemovement.com about an event in College Station in the spring of 2020.

Anybody know anything about them? From their statement of faith, they look good, but I'd really like to know more about them.

The guy actually called me back 5 minutes after I emailed an inquiry.

        Interesting story.

He was at a football game at Texas A&M's Kyle Field in 2015 with 105,000 other people watching A&M football, when (he says) the Lord put it on his heart "what would it be like if these people were hearing about Jesus instead of watching football".

Long story short, after lots of prayer, the funding just 'materialized' and sponsors showed up to rent Kyle Field for April 25 - a Saturday - for an "area-wide event".

I've looked at the list of sponsor churches and organizations, and I actually personally know a lot of those pastors, so.... I'm still checking it out.

As I was thinking "this could be a launching pad for our own area-wide revival in 2021" he said "maybe this could be a springboard for your event in 2021".

Sounds like this might be one of those times God hits you on the head with a sledgehammer to get your attention.

In our conversation, it sounded as if he had been listening to my "we need revival" speeches, and checked every box. Then I thought I would call Jim Richards - a biggie with the Southern Baptists of Texas - to get his perspective, and out of the blue this guy says "I had a meeting with Jim Richards of the SBTC on Monday, and he's on board!" I hadn't even mentioned Richards to him.

I have been at sermons where the preacher starts talking about something I had been thinking/worrying about, and it is like he is speaking directly to me.

Oh, yeah - you know what's worse? When I'm preaching and I say something that, in my own head, I realize is aimed right at ME!

I don't envy you at all. I couldn't be a preacher. Way too much responsibility.

                    Or even WORSE.....

When we were getting ready for our Franklin Graham event in College Station, the Billy Graham "Christian Life and Witness" course was taught in my Church. The guy who was teaching it had been a tank commander in Desert Storm.

Several times, he referred to how his guys would get whiny or lazy or get to complaining, and he would say "Suck it up and drive on, soldier!"

Well, I used that in a sermon illustration, and that week, one of my Deacons did something stupid, and I was grumbling about it at home. My wife reached out and took my chin in her hand, looked me in the eyes, and said "suck it up and drive on, soldier!"
