This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. • Solid liquids - a new state of matter

    Source: skynews

    Scientists have discovered a new state of matter that allows atoms to exist as both solid and liquid at the same time.

    It was previously thought there were three states of matter: liquid, solid or gas.

    Experts were unsure whether the new state - known as a "chain-melted state" - was its own distinct state of matter or simply atoms transitioning between two stages - whether solid, liquid or gas.

    But powerful computer simulations and high-pressure and high-temperature tests carried out on metal potassium have now proven the former to be true.

    "What I pray of you is, to keep your eye upon Him, for that is everything. Do you say, 'How am I to keep my eye on Him?' I reply, keep your eye off everything else, and you will soon see Him. All depends on the eye of faith being kept on Him. How simple it is!" (J.B. Stoney)

    Interesting.
    Glendower: I can call spirits from the vasty deep.
    Hotspur: Why, so can I, or so can any man;
    But will they come when you do call for them? Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1, Act III:

    go with the flow the river knows . . .

        What happened to plasma as being the fourth state of matter? Did my physics teacher CON me?
        The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

                Yeah, someone's hyping something here. We've known about multiple states of matter for a while. My favorite is a supercritical fluid.

                Fun fact: temperatures and pressures on Venus are such that the entire lower atmosphere is a supercritical fluid.
