This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. • New species of ancient human found in Philippines

And small (roughly 1.2 meters or 4' tall) like Homo floresiensis from Indonesia.

Source: A new species of Homo from the Late Pleistocene of the Philippines

    Abstract

A hominin third metatarsal discovered in 2007 in Callao Cave (Northern Luzon, the Philippines) and dated to 67 thousand years ago provided the earliest direct evidence of a human presence in the Philippines. Analysis of this foot bone suggested that it belonged to the genus Homo, but to which species was unclear. Here we report the discovery of twelve additional hominin elements that represent at least three individuals that were found in the same stratigraphic layer of Callao Cave as the previously discovered metatarsal. These specimens display a combination of primitive and derived morphological features that is different from the combination of features found in other species in the genus Homo (including Homo floresiensis and Homo sapiens) and warrants their attribution to a new species, which we name Homo luzonensis. The presence of another and previously unknown hominin species east of the Wallace Line during the Late Pleistocene epoch underscores the importance of island Southeast Asia in the evolution of the genus Homo.

Never let the lawyers for Tolkien's estate hear you say that.

FWICT the hand full of fossilized remains of Homo luzonensis, which include bones from the hands and feet as well as teeth, exhibit a mosaic of what can be called both primitive as well as modern features in a combination of traits that have never been seen before. The premolars reveal primitive characteristics whereas the molars are much more derived (modern), while the hands and feet seem more acclimated to an arboreal existence than what is seen abong Homo sapiens (us) or even Neandertals, Denisovans or Homo floresiensis.

This discovery has resulted in raising a whole slew of questions the answers to which will almost certainly force a rewriting the history of human origins.

The butchered remains of pigs along with deer and a type of extinct cow have been found in the same level of sediment that Homo luzonensis was uncovered in, but as yet no tools have been found. But considered that the butchered remains of rhinoceroses along with stone tools have been discovered in that area, and that have been dated back to 700,000 years ago, it is possible that this lineage have lived on the island since at least that long. If so that could mean that Homo luzonensis represents a locally adapted population of Homo erectus.
