It's kinda entertaining to watch. I bet JimL won't be able to keep up.

        • Well now, this is very interesting. If this story is true (it is from CNN, so no guarantees), then it seems that Mueller's own team doesn't want him publicly testifying.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's team has expressed reluctance to him testifying publicly in front of the House Judiciary Committee, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The special counsel's team has conveyed the notion that Mueller does not want to appear political after staying behind the scenes for two years and not speaking as he conducted his investigation into President Donald Trump. One option is to have him testify behind closed doors. But the notion that Mueller would only answer questions in private has become a sticking point, according to a source, as Democrats believe the public needs to hear directly from the special counsel.

Rank-and-file Democrats made clear Tuesday they believe Mueller must testify publicly given the gravity of the investigation.

          https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/05/21/pol...ons/index.html

"The special counsel's team has conveyed the notion that Mueller does not want to appear political..."

That sounds like BS excuse if I've ever heard one. If the investigation was on the up and up, and Mueller simply tells the truth, then how could it be political?

I wonder what the real reason is his "team" doesn't want him to testify? It's a good bet there are questions he really doesn't want to have to answer.

But it does line up with other things we know; and then there's the Democrats' general reluctance to want to see Mueller's feet held to the fire. They keep making noise about "By God, we'll subpoena him!" but then they haven't, and every indication is that they never will, even if he ultimately declines to appear.

For whatever reason, Mueller is still an employee of the DOJ, which means that they can prevent him from testifying in the same way that they have so far prevented White House council McGahn from appearing. They will all testify eventually, one way or the other. Besides that, why are all you Trumpsters suddenly sooooo petrified of transparency? I think you know, and those of us on the other side definitely know, why you're all so petrified. We all know that transparency will reveal the criminal behavior of the Trump administration, and you don't want that to be revealed. So sad!

That's a canard Bill. There is no perjury trap unless you perjure yourself and you can't be trapped into lying.

Dismissing a known and used tactic by prosecutors as a canard is itself a canard.

What, pray tell, are you suggesting I focus on? Perjury traps happen, and are well known enough to have had court cases decided around them. And they are exceedingly hard to prove. The point remains that the only reason to force Mueller to testify is to attempt to either tarnish his conclusion via whatever means necessary, or trick him into perjuring himself, for the Democrats in the house to fabricate an excuse to impeach Trump.

I don't think the Democrats want to tarnish Mueller. If they did that then it would call the entire investigation into question. But you'd think they would be eager to have him testify. Just imagine...

"Mr. Mueller, did you decline to indict the President or to recommend indictment only because of Department of Justice rules saying that a sitting president can not be indicted?"

                                "That is correct, Mr. Chairman."

(Grinning like a Cheshire cat) "And are you prepared today to tell us why you think the President should be indicted?"

"Yes, Mr. Chairman. If you'll turn to page 107 of my report..."

Of course it wouldn't play out like that, and the Democrats know it. Their best bet at this point is to keep Mueller out of the spotlight.
