A Question For Atheists
How many unbelievers here plan on seeing The Passion Of The Christ? If you do can you report back and give your honest review? I would be interested in your opinion.

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Shakespeare

You can do that? Isn't that stealing? But please - let us know what you think...

- Meh. I'll go see it if someone invites me, pays for the ticket, and buys me a soda and a hot dog.
Otherwise I don't feel like funding Mel's movie personally.

Wow- I'm surprised no atheist has yet made an "objective source of morality" joke over this one.

LOL. We can't now, can we?

Anyway, I'd be more interested to see how the script worked than to actually see the movie itself. I'd be curious to see how he blended the various stories to produce it "exactly as the Bible tells it."
Usually I have a fixed rule that I never find out anything personal about people whose work, thinking, or art I admire. And I've always liked Gibson's on-screen charm and energy. But since this movie first appeared on the national radar, I've lost all respect for Mel Gibson.

Agreed, this is quite a leap down from his earlier work. tsk.Usually I have a fixed rule that I never find out anything personal about people whose work, thinking, or art I admire. I might get a mate to download it, because it's not the sort of movie I'd actually pay to see.
They going to do Jesus rising from the dead too? because I'd love to see them attempt to sort out that mess...If triangles had a God, He'd have three sides.

Re: A Question For Atheists
Really? I know plenty of people who would jump at the chance to bring an Atheist to this movie. And would pay your way and your refreshments. I know we live in the same state, probably the same area. If you are serious, I'll be happy to hook you up. Consider this your invite.

[OffTopic] So I wonder what they would called each other when they finally meet...
I can see it now...
Hey, Archon...
Faramir??? Is that you?
[/OffTopic]
I'm going to go see it on March 5th at a special showing that the Wesley Foundation is sponsoring.
As far as downloading the movie, there are sites on the net now that allow you to pay for such things. However, if you don't pay for it, there's almost NO chance of it being legal.

I, on the other hand, have had my respect for him and his work go through the roof. For having the courage to lay his entire career on the line for this project, he deserves no less from me.

Somehow I doubt it. I think it is more likely becuase he had the courage et al. and just so happened to agree with your worldview.

go rent "Jesus of Nazareth" first...
I do not plan to see this movie.

I own my own copy of Zefferelli's - "Jesus of Nazareth", and I can't believe that Mel Gibson's flick will be able to hold a candle to that movie/mini series.
Obviously, Zefferelli had a much better cast of actors, and more time(6 hours+) to explore the entire ministry of Jesus, and not just the passion story.
I would highly reccomend that you go out and rent that movie if you have not seen it. You may obviously need to watch it over several nights.
The scene where Jesus tells the parable of the Prodigal Son is incredible, and even though it is an invention beyond the biblical text, I can never read or think of that story without getting a mental image of that scene from the movie. It is powerful, and well acted, with beautiful sets and cinematography.
I especially liked James Farentino as Peter, and although her performance here is not as great, I've always thought that Olivia Hussey, who plays Mary, is the most beautiful and innocent looking woman I've ever seen. A perfect casting choice, who Zefferelli also used in his classic movie Romeo and Juliet(also highly recommended).
I trust Mel for stuff like Braveheart and Patriot, but not this material.

...of course just like now, there were people protesting Zefferelli's depiction of Jesus back in 1977, when it first aired...

As long as we're on the topic of cinematic Jesuses, I just caught "Last Temptation of Christ" by Scorsese and absolutely loved it!
