Any degree holder with 12 weeks (or so) training as a TESOL teacher has an avenue for teaching English in some pretty interesting countries, if they like the idea of being paid (often a pittance, but not always) to travel overseas.

What degree is it? And why did you let her go for it?

History. It's what she loves. And she is realizing rapidly that you can't always make a living doing what you love...

Yeah there are limited careers for someone with a history major. She could be a teacher, or work in a museum or as a researcher. I can't think of too many more opportunities than that. I was arguing with someone on facebok recently who was complaining about having two history degrees and can't find a job. He seemed jealous that I have a job in IT and made some comment about how lucky I was to have a job in a field that is in high demand. I told him it wasn't luck. I chose to study and get a career in a field that was in demand and that I liked. And I didn't even go finish college (I did a bit of community college) I asked him about becoming a teacher and he whined that he didn't want to be a teacher. What else was he expecting when he went for 2 history degrees? Indiana Jones?

Either that or college degrees have become so common that they no longer help an applicant standout.

My wife does not have a degree - she has quite a bit of college, but no degree - and she's in charge of a bunch of women at work. Lately, they've been requiring that any new hires have at least a Bachelor's, and Mrs CP hates it because it eliminates some really good candidates, and many of the "degree'd" people are ... um.... less than desirable.

Some of the jobs for which she needs to hire pay like $35,000 a year, and require 2-4 years of college.

Even Indiana Jones was a teacher!

Funny - when I read the first line, I thought "part time!"
