Or they'll make you "Stand for the reading of God's word" at the beginning (which is stupid), then read a passage of several verses to you, and then you'll sit down and that'll be the end of the Bible citations.

Then there are the preachers who try to keep the congregation engaged by saying, "I'm almost done!" even when they're not. I knew one preacher who would start that routine 15-minutes in to a 90-minute message.

The pastor we listen to often is 45 minutes into a 60 minute sermon and says, "That was the introduction".

We know by then that it's going to be a 2 or 3 parter.

I went to a catholic service one time and it seemed to be a constant series of stand/sit/stand/sit. I almost broke out laughing.

ECREE. There had to be a few "kneel" periods in there somewhere, too.

Sitting at all in church, except for the elderly/infirm, is a fairly modern conception. The sermon as focal point is a Reformation thing.

yeah, there were some kneelings too. I think it might have been a catholic wedding, but it was a long time ago.

I think the story about Paul preaching late into the night, and the young man falling asleep and tumbling out of a second story window is a cautionary tale to pastors to keep their sermons short!

There does come a time where the company at a church starts to interfere with one's own walk: that's when the idea of wiping the dust from one's feet does become worthy of consideration.

Honestly, our pastor's hour-long sermons are wonderful. Time goes TOO fast, and I always want more.

Sounds like a Novus Ordo Mass - which is somewhat notorious for the amount of standing and sitting it involves. The 1962 Mass involves much less gymnastics. After the end of the homily/sermon in both, there is much less sitting and standing.

I think the Easter sermon was the end for me. Instead of a solid, triumphant "Christ is risen!" I got a sermon I titled "Taking selfies at the empty tomb." That's when I really internalized, they're happy as they are and I would be viewed as divisive if I tried to change even a small part. [par. 2, emphasis added]
