When a user said something about Nick and his autism awhile back, many of the posters on the site (most of whom were politically conservative), called for that user to be banned on the spot without a warning.
The big difference is that Tweb is a "club", so to speak, with posted rules, to which persons agree when they sign up. It is a subset of society with its own (albeit it sometimes really hard to decipher) rules of engagement.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

He was laughing because someone used "it's" where "its" was proper, and Leonhard's response contained the exact opposite issue.

I don't see the difference. The thread is about PC "culture". That's what a culture is; a set of informal rules that come up over time and become more and more formal over time, as opposed to laws. We have our own culture here too, and people here tend not to like things that are politically incorrect, even if they don't technically violate the rules.

Being incensed that a friend was being attacked is not the same as a society creating specific words so that someone isn't offended. We didn't tell Doubting John to please refer to Nick as "handicapped" not "disabled" or some such. People were just upset that DJ went for such a low blow. And as far as I recall, he was not banned for doing so.

I wasn't thinking of DJ. I was thinking of lao tzu here (it was a situation where everybody misunderstood him and overreacted, but it got cleared up eventually).

ikaika pushed really hard for him to get banned in the meantime.

lao tzu had a way of inviting misunderstanding. I don't recall, myself, every wanting him banned, though I found him, at times, to be inordinately obnoxious.

Had I known that earlier, me, being the father of a red-headed daughter (who often jokingly (I think) claims we adopted her), we may not have had some of the challenges in communication we've had.

Anyways, I don't think I"m making my point very clear. PC "culture", like in the OP, isn't so much about making laws and formal rules, but rather about making it socially unacceptable to say certain things. And all I'm saying is that even here, it's not socially acceptable to say certain things. If somebody came on here saying words like "cripple", they wouldn't be very popular.

Whether or not this actually violates TWeb rules has nothing to do with what I'm saying.

The only event I am aware of is when Doubting John made a mocking remark about Nick's autism.

But still, he wasn't banned was he?

And this seems still to be more about a personal insult toward an individual, not a politically correct rule against/for some group.

A better example might be that we don't allow derogative terms for homosexuals on this site. That would be "politically correct"
