You have no idea how you come across, Jim. That much is apparent from this belabored attempt at self-justification. "But they're doing it WORSE" - even if accurate - is not grounds for legitimizing your attacks here. So much for Teal's hard work.

Apparently you missed my post. Nixon, was not only a crook, but when running for president, he secretly negotiated with the N.Vietnamese not to end the war until after the election in order to boost his chances of winning and in so doing caused the unnecessary deaths of many more of your beloved Marines. So, I'll ask again, do you still like Nixon?

that''s just liberal fear mongering. If Trump was going to sieze control of the country he would have done it by now.

What I think about this rumor that he won't leave office if defeated in the next election is that the Democrats are setting the stage for cheating in the next election so that they can claim victory that isn't theirs and then if Trump complains they can say "See? we were right! he won't leave office!"

If Trump is defeated (fairly) in the next election, or after he finishes he next term, if he tried not to leave, he would be escorted out of the White House in hand cuffs.

So I wonder if the "trick" the democrats are planning is hanging chads again?

Or... maybe the whole conspiracy to defeat the electoral college by stealing the votes of people in various states that are in that idiotic voting alliance? I can see that going to the Supreme Court. If a state's popular vote went for Trump but that state gave it's electoral votes to the Democrat because of that alliance, those citizens would rightly be ticked off.

Per your first sentence - i would gues that is true of nearly everyone, but it is far easier to percieve in the other fellow. Sometimes I go back and review what i have written and am surprised at how harsh it sounds after I've had a few days to forget whatever motivated a response.

And I am constantly looking for ways to express ideas in ways that communicate without inflaming a conversation

One thing that I think really helps but can only be seen in my posts the last week or two is removing the attack portion of a post before I respond to it. It is amazing how much harder it is not to respond in kind if while working on a reply whatever harsh words were said are sitting in front of you the entire time a reply is being composed.

So while I can only try to change myself, I would encourage you ( and anyone else reading this) to go back and look at your own replies and see if you dont see something about yourselves you might also change that can rachet down the general hostility level found in these forums.

If we all can see that element in ourselves and can work on creating a more civil atmosphere and culture for discussion, it can only make things better overall.

I think, rather, he just doesn't like what he sees and is desperately trying to justify his own hypocrisy.

C - do you know what it is like to have the majority of the people on a forum telling you how bad you are in every single post written? Not that an idea you've had is bad, not that something you said was inaccurate, but that you yourself are bad, bad , bad. Over and over and over again. That is something I more and more work hard not to do, to not say something like you just said to me. To not directly attack the character or morals of the other person.

What I find though is that most people dont seem to be able to differentiate between saying "this idea is bad" and "you are bad".

And so I dont really yet have a set of tools that can avoid inflaming a conversation, although perhaps just being more clear about making that difference explicit may help.

It does seem that any attempt to defend against the constant attacks on me as a person only serves to escalate hostility. So Im just not even going to try anymore.

Maybe one day you can see the difference between saying an idea is bad and saying the person is bad. And ill try to be as clear as possible Im focussing on an idea, not a person in my replies.

The above it the very first post you made in this thread. In it, you claim those who support Trump ARE LOSING THEIR HUMANITY and that they are DROPPING PIECES OF THEIR SOULS!

You are doing a terrible job so far. Making LITERALLY dehumanizing allegations, accusations of following down 'the Nazi path' and strong implications of Nazi like leanings - oh, and let's not forget calling people's CHRISTIAN FAITH into question because they simply DO NOT agree with you.

Trust me, it is not noticeable. I hope it's true but I see ZERO evidence.

FIRST get that 2x4 out of your eye - THEN we'll worry about someone else's.

If we all can see that element in ourselves and can work on creating a more civil atmosphere and culture for discussion, it can only make things better overall.

NO. First and foremost, this isn't Biblical - YOUR personal compliance with Paul's admonitions are between you and God. If and when there is a noticeable effect, God is perfectly capable of making us see it - and, despite your own theory, I doubt we're nearly as blind as those God has healed (take that in both senses).

Second, it is far past time you lead by example. You want to see US change, then take a good, hard look at the vicious, callous and uncharitable way YOU treat others - and FIX IT. Show, don't tell.

And finally, before you even think about defending yourself from the vicious, callous and uncharitable part, look very closely at your FIRST POST in this thread. Claiming others are losing their humanity is ALL THREE of THOSE THINGS. Stop provoking attacks and most of them will stop happening.

Okay, one small point more. Shuny hates my guts and we never see eye to eye yet he has treated me much better in this thread than you have. We argue, but to his credit, not once has he demeaned me in this thread - and it's honestly rare for him to do that at all. (Patronize, yep, but not demean.)

God bless you Teal. I think you probably somehow feel justified in the current campaign to highlight each and every thing you despise in me - but really? How much longer do you plan to continue along this tack of posts filled with direct personal attacks on every element of me you find distasteful?
