  • Germany grants asylum to Baptists from Russia

    https://www.christianitytoday.com/ne...rsecution.html

Basically, Russia passed a law several years ago banning evangelism outside of churches, and outright banned the Jehovah's Witnesses two years ago, so this particular group of Baptists argued it was likely they would soon be targeted. The German court apparently agreed.

This other article that came up under recommended provides some interesting background:

      https://www.christianitytoday.com/ne...-election.html

Christian leaders in Russia do not speak up much about politics though they do care about moral issues. I wonder how much that has to do with growing up under Communism.

One thing from that article that has me curious is the mention that evangelicals there would not vote for a movie star. I'm curious if that's actually the only reason, or if there's some background info the writer is leaving out.

I haven't kept up with it since my friend Georgi Vins passed away, but back then there were basically two church groups in the (then) Soviet Union.

          A) Those groups that were allowed to meet freely because they agreed to adhere to all Communist limitations
          2) Those who declared they will preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ without compromise at their own peril

Georgi was in group 2, and suffered in prison for it.
