  • Supreme Court: The Wall Can Go Foward...

    Yeah, boy...

The Supreme Court has cleared the way for the Trump administration to tap Pentagon funds to build sections of a border wall with Mexico.

The Supreme Court said Friday that it would lift a freeze on the money put in place by a lower court. The Supreme Court’s action means the Trump administration can tap the funds and begin work on four contracts it has awarded. Four liberal justices wouldn’t have allowed construction to start.

So, he got 2.5 billion to basically rebuild existing structures. Well, all I can say is that it's a good thing Mexico is going to pay for it rather than it coming out of our Military budget paid for with your tax dollars. Ooops !

It doesn't matter Jim, this opens the door for more funds to be diverted to the border - which is a national security problem as far I'm concerned.

Thought you conservatives hated executive overreach? Thought you conservatives loved the constitution (which gives the power of the purse to Congress) and hate activist judges? Oh, sorry, was confusing you people with people who had principles for a moment there.

Well good luck with this replacement wall, that Mexico isn't paying for. It won't do anything relevant to stop immigrants, but apparently it's going to make conservatives feel good, and US conservatives these days seem to be all about their feelings rather than facts.

One upside of this unconstitutional legal ruling is that the next Democratic President will be able to divert $1 trillion to fight the national security threat of climate change, regardless of what a Republican-controlled congress wants.

                  Er, not quite...

The Supreme Court’s action reverses the decision of a trial court, which initially froze the funds in May, and an appeals court, which kept that freeze in place earlier this month. The freeze had prevented the government from tapping approximately $2.5 billion in Defense Department money to replace existing sections of barrier in Arizona, California and New Mexico with more robust fencing.

                  *emphasis mine

So, yeah, it's replacing existing fencing - with BETTER fencing. Which would naturally be part of the wall project - you don't put up barb wire and leave parts as wattle!

Good to own SCOTUS when you are a wannabe dictator.

It might make Trump look good to his disciples, it won't do anything else.

                    Exactly. A REAL security threat.

                      Pope Francis:

“I don’t know what’s happening with this new culture of defending territories by building walls. We already knew one, that (one) in Berlin, which brought so many headaches and so much suffering,”
"... I have even said that those who build walls end up being prisoners of the walls they build."

His points are not rational. The Berlin wall was meant to keep people in, and how are the American people prisoners of a wall built on the southern border? How does that stop us from going anywhere?

Except the climate change hoax isn't a national security issue.

I've already stated that if Trump and the republicans were truly serious about solving the problem of too much immigration, they, for one thing, would enforce the existing law against hiring new undocumented workers, but they don't. If they know that they can get work, then they are going to come, if they can't, then they won't come. We should also be investing in those countries rather than, as Trump has done, pulled our assistance out. I think Trump actually wants to make the situation worse, that way he can use it as a campaign issue.
