City Disbands Police Dept. After Protests, Now Community Upset With Consequences

East Pittsburgh, PA – East Pittsburgh residents gathered on Monday to express their concerns about the rise in violent crime and the lack of police officers patrolling their neighborhood just eight months after they disbanded the East Pittsburgh Police Department.

The East Pittsburgh Borough Council voted to dissolve the borough’s police department in the wake of the officer-involved shooting death of Antwon Rose.

I think the police should do the same in Harlem.

Why not just abolish the local laws? Then there won't be any crime.

A classic blind spot in liberal thinking is that they never expect people to change their behavior in response to government policy. They probably looked at the current crime rates, said, "Things aren't so bad, so why do we even need a police department?" and then disbanded the police and expected everything to continue as it had previously.

Same thing with economics -- they can't seem to fathom the dynamic nature of policy. Tax expensive yachts to get more revenue, then express shock and outrage that the big yacht makers move offshore, taking ALL related revenue, jobs, support...

So they disbanded their small police department without having specific arrangements for dedicated coverage, and now they're upset? Guess they're experiencing why municipal agencies exist in the first place. Doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out how that would play out...
"If you believe, take the first step, it leads to Jesus Christ. If you don't believe, take the first step all the same, for you are bidden to take it. No one wants to know about your faith or unbelief, your orders are to perform the act of obedience on the spot. Then you will find yourself in the situation where faith becomes possible and where faith exists in the true sense of the word." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship

Milano, Texas dissolved their police department in 2016 (I think) because of costs, but they had worked out a deal with the Sheriff to take over policing. Milano's population was like less than 500.

Or declare that from now on employers must bestow full time benefits to workers who work 30 hours per week rather than 40 and then act dismayed as employers start hiring people but only offer 24 or so hours per week.
