  • The passage about the lillies being dressed better than solomon.

I read this passage today. As someone who is about to graduate and is trying to be a responsible adult this passage is both comforting and strange. I have a tendency to overthink things and also to persue the moment. It is hard sometimes to fathom that in the end things will be well.

    What a magnificent passage.

It is an allusion to Song of Solomon 2:1-2 and 6:2. It fits with the theme of Matthew 6:33-34 where Jesus talks about provision and taking care of God's people.

Nicely spotted A reference to Songs would be in keeping with the Solomonic, royal, sapiential, and marital themes in St Matthew and the NT.

If one goes to https://biblehub.com and looks up the Gospel passages

        St Matthew 6.25-34
        St Luke 12.22-34

and then looks up each of those verses, and looks up all the cross-references to each verse, one can find out a lot about the ideas behind those two passages. Biblehub is a very good resource for that kind of investigation.

I actually view Song of Solomon as a picture of Christ and his Church. Some say its about marriage but I don't think it has to be either one, but rather it shows how marriage is a picture of the church. An Illusion to Ephesians 5:25.
