  • Mass Shooting - Dayton Ohio

9 dead, 26 injured in a shooting in Dayton, Ohio

The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

Claims this happened after he was denied entry to some bar. Hm there's more to the story obviously.

God help the people and families.

Yes...by all means pray for them and their families. Meanwhile, as you pray, perhaps you can pay attention to the 251 mass shootings that have happened in the U.S. in 216 days, killing over 500 people and injuring over 2,000 people, and get behind meaningful reform of our gun laws.

Or you can just keep praying...it's had so much of a demonstrable beneficial effect so far...(irony intended).

ETA: Upon reflection, I realize this was completely pointless post. It won't result in any change, and will simply trigger the usual flame war from the gun advocates of the right. I'll leave you all to it. I'm not even going to bother to read them.

      Unsubscribing.

So, another "shoot and scoot" post.

Venting your righteous indignation, along with your jackass broadbrush slander. MANY of us are VERY concerned about this and other tragedies, but believe the problem is much more than just "too many guns".

So, if you KNEW it was "pointless", and would simply "trigger the usual flame war" - why didn't you delete it? Because that's exactly what you intended?

Right would it make Carp and others happy if he killed the same number with a truck?

The shooter was apparently wearing body armor and carrying a "very large gun" (police are now specifying that he carried a ".223 caliber, assault-style weapon with high capacity magazines"). He also apparently had a hand gun. Motivation hasn't been offered yet, but it sounds like something more than lack of entry into a bar at this point (though that was something suggested in initial reports).

Such as making it easier for law abiding citizens to acquire and carry firearms for self-defense, and banning deadly "gun free zones".

One of the guests on ABC This Week railed about how Texas has a high rate of gun ownership therefore that "proves" that people owning firearms don't prevent things like this. Of course what was (deliberately) omitted was that it took place in a "gun free zone" (as a seemingly inordinate amount of these type of shootings do).

This might be better directed to the El Paso thread. For the record, the shooting that happened in Dayton last night was not in a "gun free zone."

Are you sure? Ohio law bans firearms from eateries that serve alcohol.

Reports are currently saying that the shooting happened outside of Ned Peppers bar on the sidewalk. But even if that weren't the case, as I understand it, Ohio allows concealed carry in bars.

His name was Connor Betts, looks like he killed his sister in the process.

Only kinda sorta - Ohio allows concealed carry in places that serve alcohol with a valid concealed carry permit, unless posted and as long as you consume no alcohol.

Mass shootings ought to be regarded as acceptable losses simply because no effective action is ever taken to prevent them. So, while policemen and politicians go on television to condemn and sympathize and everyone agrees that the killing is horrible, nothing ever happens because the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Omnes pro uno, does not apply.

Or, maybe, instead of launching into the impossible "BAN GUNS - NO, GUN RIGHTS" battle, spend some time to figure out what's actually making these people act out.
