Deeper Waters Forum Guidelines
Notice – The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.
Deeper Waters is founded on the belief that the Christian community has long been in the shallow end of Christianity while there are treasures of the deep waiting to be discovered. Too many in the shallow end are not prepared when they go out beyond those waters and are quickly devoured by sharks. We wish to aid Christians to equip them to navigate the deeper waters of the ocean of truth and come up with treasure in the end.
We also wish to give special aid to those often neglected, that is, the disabled community. This is especially so since our founders are both on the autism spectrum and have a special desire to reach those on that spectrum. While they are a special emphasis, we seek to help others with any disability realize that God can use them and that they are as the Psalmist says, fearfully and wonderfully made.

Sadly, Nick, your indictment of youth ministries in Christian denominations also matches with my experience growing up Jewish.
By the time of the bar/bat mitzvah, none of us had any idea what we believed or why we believed it. What did we have? A lot of "contemporary Judaism" and "Jewish culture" and assorted outings. Those are all fine, in small doses. It shouldn't shock anybody, though, that such an approach fails to build a robust theological connection and understanding of the religion.

Christian education is fast becoming neither - but before we place blame solely on the Church what happened to his Bible? Did his Christian bookstore not have an apologetics section? Why didn't he ask any of those questions to Christians that might be able to address - if not outright answer - them?
Christian education is a passion of mine and yes, it has many failings. Feel good churches aren't likely to be either for very long. BUT when I became an atheist it was my OWN FAULT that I didn't seek answers to my issue and that I had never actually read the Bible cover to cover - or tried to find another translation. OR asked questions of people that might could have helped me.
The Bible tells us 'seek and ye shall find' - which kinda requires that we actually do some seeking.
Before we speculate about what's wrong with 'them', take a good look in the mirror - is that eye clear or is there a log poking out. True both ways around - both for we as the church in how we respond to the weak state of Biblical literacy - and to the 'seeker' that isn't really looking."He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." - Jim Elliot

When I was a teen, I looked for answers when I was wondering if Christianity was true. I did not just throw in the towel and become an agnostic just because of dealing with foolish fundy atheist teenagers. I became and apologetics nerd!
Um... I really hope I didn't just insult you Teal...
I'm just the kind of person that likes to seek knowledge. I read medical encyclopedias for fun when I was 8....If it weren't for the Resurrection of Jesus, we'd all be in DEEP TROUBLE!

My concern about the Christian Music business, for a long time, has been that many people "in the music business" find an audience in Church or Christian concerts or whatever.
It's not necessarily that they're strong Christians seeking to share their faith through music - but in many cases, it's finding an outlet to share their musical talent.
How many musicians got their "start" singing in Church? Then they get well known, and so many seem to use the Christian or Gospel background to "cross over" into secular music.
It never really surprises me when a "successful" Christian musician abandons the faith, or "crosses over" into secular music.
In my own church, I don't encourage anybody to sing or play instruments unless I believe they are doing it as an avenue to share their faith, not their musical talent. The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

I recommend you do not try too hard and ...research as little as possible. Such weighty things give me a headache. - Shunyadragon, Baha'i apologist
