They tried democracy with Cromwell. They apparently were not happy with it for some reason.

Aside from that, my observations from following British politics through papers and history has showed me they are incredibly slow to change. The changes to the rules of succession to the throne took, I think, 40 years to finally go through. There are predictions that Prince George will never be King because of growing support to abolish the monarchy. That may well happen...they are slloooooowwwwww.

Yeah. Even ancient Israel was never supposed to have a human king. They were supposed to be a theocracy.

Right a theocracy with God as King. Monarchy is the way of Heaven...

At least not of the "earthly" variety.

I'm always still in trouble again

And I'm not sure why a Monarchy is worse than a Republic - look at all the terribly immoral things we have accepted and protected in law.

The monarch is the head of state. She is on the money. One might serve a sentence in prison ‘at Her Majesty’s pleasure’. Your Boy Scout oath is about your duty to the Queen or King. It is a very important role and it represents unity and continuity. Politicians come and go, the Queen and her Royal family do not.

    God save the Queen.

“You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.” ― Anne Lamott
“And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that He would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence” ― Bertrand Russell

So she replaces God in British society?
