So, I am typing a reply on Tweb when the Restart Now? prompt pops up and it promptly decides that my keystroke is a yes.

I am on my phone now...

        Get this extension:

        firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...story-control/
        chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...bnbkglkb?hl=en

It saves all of your typing on the fly, so if your post gets lost, it is still there.

If you have a substantive reply, type it in Word. Word will autosave.

This reminds me of the old days when there was nothing to save the draft of posts. Note that the tweb draft posts are usually backed up so you don't lose stuff as easily.

I should have been clearer. I was in mid-type when it popped up and it took whatever key as a yes. It didn't immediately start the shut down so I did get to finish (fortunately, I was almost done) and post.

THEN it shut down and spent more than an hour updating...

Still, I got the extension - I have lost posts to my computer freezing up at an inopportune time.

Nah, it just changed the bar color - it was a light brown. Now it's a very dark brown.

I hate it when I have to reboot this old lappie. It usually takes several tries, often resorting to "Use last known good configuration" from the F8 (or is it F9?) screen, and it's usually well over an hour before it's done tripping over itself and sticking its CPU up its bus and is ready to use.

If Microsoft had invented the car, when you had car trouble, the recommended solution would be "take out the engine and put it back in".
