Byzantine bureaucracy was present even in earlier eras of American history. Pres. Garfield got assassinated in 1881 by somebody who was pissed off that he didn't get appointed to a civil service position.

You guys don't want kings, want to keep dividing power. That's how you get bureaucrats, Bureaucracy with a capital B, bureaucracy of the modern sort. It's very hard to touch them, or to fire other civil servants. Unelected but collectively they have so much power.

and a bunch of celebritards mugging for the camera and fighting among themselves like an episode of Big Brother.
Churchill died too early. If he lived to see contemporary democracy he'd change that well-known quote.

Did they traditionally have to care about what the citizens want?

Why are you astounded when Bernie was blocked just last election? This sort of thing is perfectly normal, like MM said.

I would be astounded if the Dems weren't rigging things.

We find people who don't want to run the country and have them write it.

The sponsor is far less important than the pollsters for actual accuracy. The DNC selected sponsors, not pollsters.

But my point was that the list of qualified sponsors/pollsters was settled months ago and thus something that happened afterwards couldn't have affected it.

Ah - I would argue that yes, it is rigged but that was done deliberately beforehand. The thing with Harris didn't affect it - but it probably explains why they aren't willing to make an exception for a candidate that surpassed the one requirement and is polling well in numerous polls.
