  • Popeye's?

I've seen the commercials from the States, and we've just had one open up in our town.

Is the chicken good? Is it always spicy? Thoughts?

It is rather spicy. I'm not a fan of it personally but I don't really like spicy food in the first place, so...

Do they serve spinach? I don't recall having popeye's chicken.

It is heaven on a bone. The folks at the Popeyes here on my installation know me by first name. The mild chicken is delicious and crispy. The spicy has a kick, but nothing bad. The biscuits are like little buttery clouds when they are hot. The strips are tasty and the grilled options are a healthier alternative. Plus, their apple pies are to die for.

No spinach. Green beans, fries, dirty rice, potatoes and gravy, red beans and rice, and mac n cheese in some locations.

We are not a fan of spicy food, well, except MelMak. So if there is a mild option, that is good!

We are thinking of trying it for supper tonight.

            Thanks for input, guys!

That's a good question, mike. It's certainly the first thing I thought of when I saw the commercial for the first time.

I expect the side offerings may be different in different areas. I don't expect to see dirty rice, red beans and rice, or mac and cheese here.

                But you never know!

Hopefully they do have those. How else can you experience American food?

Let us know if you find some big differences in the menu.

Maybe I should try it based on BtC's recommendation

Let us know if they put gravy on your french fries there.

                    I have never tried Popeye's.

                    The commercials advertise seafood too.

The "spicy" isn't the least bit spicy. What they now call "spicy" used to be what they called "mild" until whiners complained and ruined it.

They used to have a spinach salad bar ages ago at some locations, but it didn't last.

The dirty rice is fairly good and the biscuits are nicely fluffy but sometimes a bit dry.

They have some popcorn shrimp, which is not very good, and a blackened grilled catfish that is pretty tasty.

I don't put gravy on my fries ever, so I can let you know if they do, but I won't be able to tell you how it tastes. MelMak like gravy WITH his fries, so he may be able to tell you how it tastes if they offer it. Most chicken places around here offer gravy with fries.

Well, you know I won't be trying the catfish, if there is such a thing here.

                              Here's the Canadian menu.

                              http://popeyeschicken.ca/

                              No catfish, Alaskan whitefish instead.
