  • Norrin, I lost track of your post but I did review the NPR article. I still think 35% is an indicator of a very strong candidacy - and refutes Jim's 'all large donors' claim, but I concede that it is not the majority of Trump's fundraising.

This is what we should do with Trump; he simply does not belong in the garden.

So what if they don't? This should have happened in the House inquiry - and if the House didn't have time to fight out subpoenas, why would the Senate?

If the Senate follows the House's example, it won't bother risking time consuming court battles and will just acquit.

        We told you so.

Sorry, I should have known better; definitely not to be confused with the ‘Royal we’ (or ‘us’) with which Trumpophilies are familiar.

              • Andrew Yang warns Democrats: 'Stop being obsessed over impeachment'

Yang doesn't stand a chance as a Democrat Nominee... he makes WAY too much sense on this, and a number of other issues.

Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang warned his party Thursday it had become “obsessed” with impeachment and risked blowing the next election unless it starts to focus on the issues that helped President Trump get elected.

While the other six candidates on the slimmed-down debate stage in Los Angeles praised the impeachment effort as a critical clash, Mr. Yang said the path to victory in 2020 runs through the voters Mr. Trump reached by tapping into their frustrations.

“We have to stop being obsessed over impeachment, which unfortunately strikes many Americans like a ball game, we know what the score is going to be, and start actually digging in and solving the problems that got Donald Trump elected in the first place,” he said, a day after House Democrats voted to approve two articles of impeachment against Mr. Trump.

                ETA: HUSH, Andrew, HUSH!

It wasn’t the Republicans that told the American people that they didn’t have time to take Trump’s challenge the courts and we need to act now... and than decide to sit on it. You’re sure a faithful stooge though, I’ll give you that.

Interesting Pelosi quote in your signature because it seems that impeachment has not moved public opinion, meaning that the division was already ingrained. Impeachment tells the voters that the House has done everything it could do, it shows that the Senate is scared to oppose Trump and it leaves the voters, in spite of Repub voter suppression tactics, to make the decisive move against incipient tyranny.

When the result of their efforts was to cause a decrease in support for impeachment that shows it wasn't engrained but rather that their case for impeachment was, in the words of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a "shoddy work product."

Pretty much, yes, and everybody knew the outcome of the game before the first pitch was thrown.

Impeachment tells the voters that the House has done everything it could do,
That's not the purpose of impeachment. But it is definitely used that way today - and the Democrats botched it badly.

it shows that the Senate is scared to oppose Trump and it leaves the voters,
Wow. The impeachment sham was incredibly partisan, with the ONLY bi-partisanship being some Democrats who voted no, and LOSING public support.

in spite of Repub voter suppression tactics, to make the decisive move against incipient tyranny.

Oh, but the Democrats don't want Republicans to call those witnesses.
I'm starting to come around to this position as well. It's still a waste of time and money from an impeachment perspective, but it would make for great political theater.

Matters not to me either way --- I don't think there's a person on the planet who actually believes the Senate would vote to convict and remove, so... But, yeah.

                            • I do enjoy this sort of thing:
Impeachment, Donald Trump said, could turn a president into “a mess.”
A president impeached, he continued, “would be thinking about nothing but — it would be a horror show for him.”
In fact, to be impeached “would be an absolute embarrassment,” he concluded.
“It would go down on his record permanently,” Trump declared.
The future president offered this existential take on impeachment during a 2014 call-in to “Fox & Friends,” in reference to then-President Barack Obama. But his comments were pure Trumpian projection, and prophetic of a dilemma he himself would face almost exactly five years later.
                              WaPo of course.

If it is so shoddy, why is McConnell scared to have witnesses and documents? The truth is that the Repubs don’t have a defense; therefore they must avoid a real trial. Schumer thinks McConnell wouldn’t dare have Biden on the stand. McConnell is just a big girl’s blouse.
