Of course, those remarks were made before impeachment was used as a nakedly partisan attempt to undo an election. Context matters.

Impeachment does not alter election results. If Trump is removed, the next POTUS is still a Repub. This sort of garbage only fools fools.

I hardly think he's scared -- he just recognizes the sham for what it is, and sees that the Democrats are.... there's an old saying: When you see your enemy destroying himself, step back and get out of his way.

Unless Trump is actually removed by the Senate, he can run for a second term, and the Democrats are pretty much paving the way for his victory. YAY DEMOCRATS!

Pence would then be President, yes. It would alter the upcoming election rather dramatically, however. Trolling furriners should take that into account.

Trump will survive impeachment and he will run again and may be re-elected. If that happens, the great danger is that there will be no more, so called, adults in the room, and he is going to go all out for revenge and hurt as many good people as possible. He could do a lot of damage to important government departments.

William Taylor has just been fired, I hear.

That does appear to be the Federalist Society agenda; to dismantle the Administrative State.

Government should be as minimal as possible. Drain the swamp.

Civil servants are not swamp creatures. If you make cuts, at least take sufficient care to know what you are cutting, and know what services will no longer be delivered.

My advice to Republicans is, now that you have your foot on his neck, grow a spine, and finish him off. You will not get a better chance.

Well.... not ALL civil servants are swamp creatures. You'd only need to find one exception to make your statement untrue.

FF, dear friend, you've been warned about this penchant of yours to mix politicians and death. That is taken seriously in this country. It's like standing in line for security screening at the airport and joking you have a bomb.

                          • This impeachment farce is not really helping Joe Biden at all, particularly in some key battleground states.

USA TODAY Poll: Impeached or not, Trump leads his Democratic rivals for another term

The national survey, taken as the House of Representatives planned an impeachment vote and the Senate a trial, showed Trump defeating former Vice President Joe Biden by 3 percentage points, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by 5 points, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren by 8 points.

In hypothetical head-to-head contests, Trump also led South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg by 10 points and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg by 9
