There's a process for that. That would clearly be a "high crime".
ETA: Apparently, this is the statement Jim alluded to without citation.
So he could be prosecuted immediately after removal.
It's a pretty dumb example, actually."He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." - Jim Elliot

Indeed, the DOJ under Trump is in court right now arguing that Congress cannot investigate criminal matters outside of an impeachment inquiry.
So we've got a situation where:
-- The President (or his company) cannot be investigated for potential criminal behavior outside of an impeachment hearing (according to the President's attorneys)
-- Congress cannot investigate potentially criminal behavior by the President outside of an impeachment inquiry (according to DOJ)
-- That impeachment inquiry must be "formal", with a House vote (according to DOJ)
-- House Democrats pursuing an impeachment inquiry are engaging in a "circus"
What, exactly, needs to be done here for the President's potentially impeachable or criminal misdeeds to be investigated legitimately?

There's an election coming soon, and it would not surprise me that the manner in which the Democrats have handled this drive more people to abandon them, even if they don't move toward Trump.
On the other hand, it may well be that the manner in which the Republicans are handling this may hurt Trump's reelection prospects.
It is what it is, and neither you or I can do anything about it.The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

Trump won't be impeached. The last thing the Democrats want is for this thing to go into open trial in the Senate where the witnesses can be ripped to shreds by Trump's lawyers. Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd

House Republican members of the relevant committees and/or their staff are present at depositions and are given equal time to depose witnesses. All committee members are given full access to review depositions and related materials.
