I think it's fair to presume that all people in this forum are not nuts. While I often disagree with Mountain Man, I think he deserves be treated with the same kind of respect you wish to be treated with.

Presumably you'd agree that there are people in the world who are actually nuts, and that nothing stops them from posting on this forum?

Especially in the US where the level of mental health treatment is poor compared to other developed countries (due to their suicidal right-wing commitment to opposing to public funding of health care, resulting in a high rate of preventable deaths in their country compared to countries which do fund such a system).

I would say that of the posters on this forum, mikewhitney and MM are probably the two most likely to be actually nuts. MM seems to have never met a conspiracy theory he didn't love.

I am certainly not a Trump hater. In fact I find him especially amusing as I can just imagine how apoplectic the liberal left gets at whatever he is saying or doing. I have also written down a list of why I like him and many of his policies. (It is quite long lol).

It is therefore very difficult to concede that after watching quite a bit of the impeachment hearing on the BBC News last night, I think the crux unfortunately is this: If your country does X, for ME, then my country will do Y for you/your country. Ouch! I wish very much this was not so. It is the X for ME that is problematic. It would be perfectly in order if it was X for my COUNTRY.

The president is the elected representative of his country. You're attempting to draw a distinction between the man and his duties when it doesn't exist in this scenario.

His experience was getting kicked out of the military for doing cocaine and helping to start a company which focused on investing Chinese capital in companies based outside of China -- another job he had no qualifications for or experience in but that the Chinese government gladly poured hundreds of millions of dollars into turning it into one of the country's largest mutual fund management companies almost overnight.

Now the other folks and groups that were involved in founding the company were definitely qualified but nobody has ever been able to explain what Hunter brought to the table -- except the Biden name. Sort of like his uncle in the article I linked to.

So please explain how "that was the general field he was working in, and so seems to me to be perfectly adequately qualified."

Hunter Biden graduated from Yale Law School, then worked at a banking company for 4 years where he quickly worked his way up to the senior management team. He then took a position as an economic adviser in the US Department of Commerce, then co-founded a lobbyist firm. He served on the board of Amtrack for 3 years. He resigned from his existing positions after his father became VP, to avoid any conflicts of interest, and went and worked at a law firm, and also founded a global venture capitalist firm. After five years of working for those firms, he made a brief attempt to be a Navy Reserve officer but was discharged after a month for testing positive for cocaine (which, if rumors are to be believed, enjoys a very high use rate among people in the US financial industries). He then founded another venture capitalist firm with a focus on the investment of Chinese money abroad. A year later he agreed to serve on the board of Burisma.

So his CV going into the Burisma board job ticked the five boxes that people are usually looking for when they select people to serve on boards:
- Past experience serving on a board (3 years on the board of Amtrack)
- Legal knowledge (Legal degree + 5 years working as a lawyer)
- Experience in company management (worked in the senior management team of a banking company, founded multiple companies of his own)
- Experience in how companies are funded (worked with venture capitalist firms, a banking firm, a legal firm, founded his own companies)
- Has a web of personal contacts that might be useful to the company with regard to working with other companies going forward (worked with numerous people over the years in banking, his law firm, his venture capitalist firms)

In this case, the company owner also wanted famous board members to give the appearance of stability at a time when Russia was taking bites out of Ukraine. In that sense, Hunter Biden getting the job due to being famous is no worse that a celebrity getting a job to appear in an advertisement due to being famous.
