Al Sharpton: Lack of black 2020 candidates is 'wrong,' a 'problem' for Democratic Party

Seeking to be relevant, Rev. Al weighs in on the "all white" Democratic options.

MSNBC host Al Sharpton said Tuesday that the Democratic Party is going to have some explaining to do to black voters when not a single black presidential candidate appears on the next debate stage.

Appearing on MSNBC’s “Deadline,” the National Action Network founder weighed in on Sen. Kamala D. Harris announcing Tuesday that she was dropping out of the Democratic presidential primary.

“I think that the real problem the Democrats are going to have is the next debate, you have no black [candidate] on that stage,” Mr. Sharpton said. “And the Democratic Party cannot have a stage where black voters do not see themselves reflected — where they don’t see themselves reflected and expect that we’ll come out and vote in big numbers.

This, while some Democrats are worried because they're losing black voters to Trump.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

If it isn't, he sure is stoking the flames.

No I mean a legit worry that Dems are worried about blacks voting for Trump. That would seem to be an insignificant fraction of his base.

Who is "Reverend" Al blaming exactly?

Not to me - you run the best candidate for the job regardless of color. When liberals tend to make everything about race, it kinda comes back to haunt them.

Al's a quack. I'm not sure why he gets the time of day from anyone. And I've always wondered what he's a "Reverend" of. Literally never seen him speak and make a reference to anything religious, which is interesting behavior for a minister.

That being said, I get what he's saying. And while I understand it, I still think we're going to continue to have the perception of major race issues as long as people continue to insist on seeing race, black people included. We'll never be a truly equal society until we just ignore race altogether (with the exception of the absolute necessity of describing someone's physical appearance).
"If you believe, take the first step, it leads to Jesus Christ. If you don't believe, take the first step all the same, for you are bidden to take it. No one wants to know about your faith or unbelief, your orders are to perform the act of obedience on the spot. Then you will find yourself in the situation where faith becomes possible and where faith exists in the true sense of the word." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship

Kinda like "the Reverend Jesse Jackson" -- it's all about status.

He actually debated Christopher Hitchens on the existence of God back in 2007. I have no idea how good of a job he did, though.

Nobody did good against Hitch, but he was more ill prepared than most.

I'm still not sure who he's blaming. Is he blaming the Democrat party? The voters? The candidates themselves?

The other curious thing is "Reverend" Al implying that blacks won't vote for someone who doesn't look like them, which is kinda racist.

Pretty much everyone is calling the DNC racist now. Kamala Harris basically blamed the Democrats for being racist and misogynist for her having to drop out. And newspapers are calling attention to how white the field has gotten.

It's like they're trying to lose the next election or something.

That just sounds like a disaster in the making. Hitchens was not a lightweight.
