Eschatology 201 Guidelines

This area of the forum is primarily for Christian theists to discuss orthodox views of Eschatology. Other theist participation is welcome within that framework, but only within orthodoxy. Posts from nontheists that do not promote atheism or seek to undermine the faith of others will be permitted at the Moderator's discretion - such posters should contact the area moderators before posting.

Without turning this forum into a 'hill of foreskins' (Joshua 5:3), I believe we can still have fun with this 'sensitive' topic.

However, don't be misled, dispensationalism has only partly to do with circumcision issues. So, let's not forget about Innocence, Conscience, Promises, Kingdoms and so on.

End time -isms within orthodox Christianity also discussed here. Clearly unorthodox doctrines, such as those advocating "pantelism/full preterism/Neo-Hymenaeanism" or the denial of any essential of the historic Christian faith are not permitted in this section but can be discussed in Comparative Religions 101 without restriction. Any such threads, as well as any that within the moderator's discretions fall outside mainstream evangelical belief, will be moved to the appropriate area.

Millennialism- post-, pre- a-

Futurism, Historicism, Idealism, and Preterism, or just your garden variety Zionism.

From the tribulation to the anichrist. Whether your tastes run from Gary DeMar to Tim LaHaye or anywhere in between, your input is welcome here.

OK folks, let's roll!

  • Luke 21:24 Reve 13:10 "falling by sword and going to captivity"

    Hello. I have been attempting to harmonize Luke 21 with Revelation.

    Could these passages be talking of the same event of 70 AD?

    Luke 21:24
    And they shall be falling to mouth of sword and they shall be being led captive into all the nations.
    And Jerusalem shall be being trodden by nations until which may be being filled times of nations.
    [Deuteronomy 28:68/Reve 11:2/13:10]

    Revelation 13:10
    If any to-captivity into captivity is going away.
    If any in sword to be killed, is binding him in sword to be killed.
    Here is the endurance<5281> and the faith of the Saints [Luke 21:24]

    The Destruction of Jerusalem

    The day on which Titus encompassed Jerusalem, was the feast of the Passover................

    ..........Of the Jews destroyed during the siege, Josephus reckons not less than ONE MILLION AND ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND, .................
    Of the captives the whole was about NINETY-SEVEN THOUSAND.

    It appears to be the fulfillment of these 2 passages in the OT:

    Jeremiah 15:2
    “And it shall be, if they say to you, ‘Where should we go?' then you shall tell them, ‘Thus says the LORD:
    “Such as are for death, to death;
    And such as are for the sword, to the sword;
    And such as are for the famine, to the famine;
    And such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.” '

    Daniel 11 could be speaking of the 1st century 7 years Jewish/Roman War from 66 AD thru 70 AD Jerusalem up to 73AD Masada?

    Daniel 11:33

    And ones being intelligent<7919> of people they shall cause to understand to many-ones,
    and they stumble<3782> in sword and in blaze<3852>, in captivity<7628> and in plunder days<3117>
    [Sword and captive/captivity are mentioned together in only 2 verses of the NT:]

    Rev 13:10 is clearly speaking of Christians. According to ECF historical reports (I believe it was Eusebius), Christians didn't fight in the 70 AD war, as per Jesus' warnings. They fled to Pella.
