  • Reaping the whirlwind: CT, part 2

Christianity Today has firmly illustrated what conservatism and liberalism stands for, represents. It has plunged headlong into controversy again.

    https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct...president.html

The far left, Bible rejecting rabble of effete intellectual elitists has demonstrated their lack of patriotism and willingness to abide with the enemies of Christ. This shows how they have become irrelevant, having lost their way since their founding by Billy Graham.

The elitist media empire no longer represents evangelicalism today, instead choosing to undermine the gains made in the political sphere. This president has done more for the Christian faith than anyone, except for the Savior Himself.

He is right that there is a problem of hyper-politicization in the church. For one of the worst recent examples, they should just look at Gallio's recent editorial, "That [Trump] should be removed, we believe, is not a matter of partisan loyalties but loyalty to the Creator of the Ten Commandments." What slime.

It's pretty obvious they want essentially open borders, that's why they're not real conservatives. Some of them want it because they actually believe in it, the leaders just want the sweet $$$$$ that comes with relocating refugees.

That's what they're loyal to, this vision of open borders. That's why they hate Trump with a passion because he is limiting immigration and fake 'refugee' nonsense. That's why they are so open to believing all manner of BS about Trump, including the worst of the nothingburgers, the Ukraine nonsense.
Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.

So you also hate Trump and want open borders! But it brings in the question if one can accept the Old Testament principles of treating people with dignity be a real conservative.

And yes I note the irony in placing this post as a response to an atheist who I assume is a political liberal. But the question stands, it shows the problem today of reconciling modern conservatism and Christianity, and which influences the other.

I can't quite tell whether your posts on this subject are meant in earnest or are tongue in cheek parody, but this is so over the top that it makes me think it's parody.

A quote from Emma Lazarus. She wrote the poem New Colossus as a fund raiser for the public - private effort to erect an icon to the pagan goddess Liberty, which was a gift from France.

Lazarus was an open border type, encouraging unrestricted immigration of foreigners who were not at all accustomed to American culture or democracy. The influx of the Jews from Russia threatened to overwhelm the social fabric of places such as New York City. In many neighborhoods, English became a minority language.

The open borders advocated by Lazarus changed America, diluting our culture.

Taking a cue from The Babylon Bee, perhaps.

Parody uses exaggeration for effect. I have permitted myself one small indiscretion, adding the bit about Jesus, which was not a quote. Forgive me, for I have sinned.

But I am shocked (and insulted) that you have dared see it as parody. I have merely quoted such Christian luminaries as Donald Trump, James Dobson, and Ralph Reed. In other words, the elites of today's Christian conservatism.

Trump has trumpeted the role he has played in advancing Christian political causes and advancing Christian moral issues. What greater friend to Christians is there?

Added in edit: All one needs to do is spend five minutes online reading the criticisms of the CT editorial to see find each point made.

Th phrase in the title is more than an idiomatic expression, it is a reference to the Bible. The prophet Hosea said " when they sow the wind, they will reap a whirlwind".

I think the writer chose that phrase, it was not a happy coincidence. The pair of editorials are a harsh critique of the political loyalties existing today.

The passage in Hosea addresses corruption in the body politic as well as what Hosea sees as corruption in the religion. Agree with Galli or not, Christianity Today does tackle what it sees as a problem which parallels the Old Testament Israel.

Are we today immune from the errors of the Israelites?

Some interesting parts of the article:

President Donald Trump would have you believe we are “far left.” Others have said we are not Bible-believing Christians. Neither is true. Christianity Today is theologically conservative. We are pro-life and pro-family. We are firm supporters of religious liberties and economic opportunity for men and women to exercise their gifts and create value in the world. We believe in the authority of Scripture.
Similarly, this is neither a criticism of the evangelical Trump voter nor an endorsement of the Democrats. The 2016 election confronted evangelical voters with an impossible dilemma: Vote for a pro-choice candidate whose policies would advance so much of what we oppose, or vote for an extravagantly immoral candidate who could well damage the standing of the republic and the witness of the church. Countless men and women we hold in the highest regard voted for President Trump, some wholeheartedly and some reluctantly.
                              https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct...president.html

                              Merry Christmas.
"Yes. President Trump is a huge embarrassment. And it’s an embarrassment to evangelical Christianity that there appear to be so many who will celebrate precisely the aspects that I see Biblically as most lamentable and embarrassing." Southern Baptist leader Albert Mohler Jr.
