    Alrighty then!

The most baffling thing in all of this is why Iran didn't ground all civilian flights during combat operations.
Speaking of rumors, they may have been planning on trying to blame the U.S. for the downing of the aircraft but the videos made that impossible. But this is predicated on the notion that the shooting it down was intentional.

Did they really have any other choice? The evidence was overwhelming.

Nope my memory is all wrong....it was in the 80s but it was an Iranian civilian jet thar the USS Vincennes misread as a Tomcat that was common in either the Iraqi or Iranian force. In the middle of the war going on between those countries. .... as I recall (hopefully correctly) the Vincennes reported the plane wasn't squawking the correct code ...

The pilots also didn't respond to requests to identify broadcast over a range of commonly used frequencies.

              -----

These people are insane. Trump is no more responsible for the Iran shooting down a civilian plane than a police officer would be responsible if a suspect flees to avoid arrest and ends up mowing down a crowd of pedestrians. "The police shouldn't have tried to arrest him!" is a pretty dumb argument.
Trudeau is now saying that he has doubts about the airliner being shot down by accident

Some more details about the protests:

Tehran (AFP) – Iranian police dispersed students chanting “radical” slogans during a Saturday gathering in Tehran to honour the 176 people killed when an airliner was mistakenly shot down, Fars news agency reported.

AFP correspondents said hundreds of students had gathered early in the evening at Amir Kabir University, in downtown Tehran, to pay respects to those killed in the air disaster.

The tribute later turned into an angry demonstration.

The students chanted slogans denouncing “liars” and demanded the resignation and prosecution of those responsible for downing the plane and allegedly covering up the accidental action.

Iran said on Saturday that the Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 was “unintentionally” shot down on Wednesday shortly after taking off from Tehran’s main airport.

All 176 people on board died, mostly Iranians and Canadians, many of whom were students.

Fars, which is close to conservatives, said the protesting students chanted “destructive” and “radical” slogans.

The news agency said some of the students tore down posters of Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian general killed on January 3 in a US drone strike on Baghdad.

Like I said earlier, it's very hard for Iran to claim victim status after shooting down a civilian plane.

Stop acting like defending Trump is opposing Khamenei. It's not. Better than that, stop acting like defending Trump is defending the Republican Party. He's going to walk away from the wreckage with as much as he can salvage. That's what he does, and he's made a career of it. Trump was unfit for office the day he came down the escalator and announced, and he has not changed. He doesn't read. He doesn't think things through, and to the extent he does, he does so inside a private reality that doesn't match objective facts. This is a case in point.

Iran used its influence to blow up American GIs before the Iran deal, and additional funds after the Iran deal to do more of it. This is a bad actor, dude. And now, because Trump chose to blow up one of their top generals, in Baghdad, it's a bad actor with enough influence to push us out of Iraq without sending a single troop across the border. We've got the troops, but they've got the votes.

We're not going to listen to their parliament.

We're not going to listen to their prime minister.

                          That's gonna work out.

                          Roll on.

That never stops the Russians. So, I guess, in some sense, that's encouraging.
