It's come out that the reason Trump did the insane illegal assassination of the Iranian leader was because some Republican Senators, whose votes he knows he's going to need for the impeachment trial, bullied him into it.

In light of that, Pelosi has little choice, she's got to proceed with the impeachment fast, because the status quo of holding off is empowering Republican extremists in the Senate to blackmail Trump to do crazy things that hurt the country.

Here's a Business Insider article which summarizes the WSJ reporting.

President Donald Trump told associates that he assassinated Iran's top military leader last week in part to appease Republican senators who'll play a crucial role in his Senate impeachment trial, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

In a lengthy piece detailing how the president's top advisers coalesced behind the strike on Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, The Journal reported that Trump had told associates he felt pressured to satisfy senators who were pushing for stronger US action against Soleimani and who will run defense for him on impeachment.
Can we now agree that these senators cannot honestly take the oath to be impartial? This is a Quid Pro Quo to prejudge the result in exchange for Soleimani. Horrifying.

And now that this has been revealed (which was pretty obvious, especially when Bolton showed his mug out the blue), I wonder what role Pelosi played in this? Or she just conveniently held things up with no real explanation why, which just happened to work in favor of these senators and the timing of it all.

There's not much context, as the rest of the article is about something mundane, and the lede is well-buried. Here's the paragraphs it's in:

The way the strike was handled has drawn scrutiny from Democrats and some Republicans. Critics say the decision was hasty, considering the risk of all-out war. They also question whether the intelligence that prompted the action was as clear-cut and alarming as the White House has said, and see the move as doing little to further U.S. interests in the region.

Mr. Trump, after the strike, told associates he was under pressure to deal with Gen. Soleimani from GOP senators he views as important supporters in his coming impeachment trial in the Senate, associates said.

But the story is being picked up by other sources so hopefully we'll get some more details soon...

I believe history will reveal that part of the reason Pelosi held out the articles was to increase the odds of Trump making an blunder like this one. As a malignant narcissist Trump was constitutionally incapable of leaving his impeachment hanging over his head and had to do *something* to try to change the subject and gain adoration.

Well, that's one of the good things about Trump, in spite of the fact the left accuses him of lying to cover things up, the dude doesn't keep much to himself to cover things up

I would tend to assume that Pelosi is horrified this has happened and so has now rushed to hand the impeachment articles to the Senate. The reason she'd held up the articles of impeachment was because McConnell had said there wouldn't be a fair trial in the senate and that he wouldn't call witnesses like all of the previous 19 impeachment trials in the Senate had. It seems unlikely she did it to empower extremist Republican senators, and her own caucus has just voted against war with Iran.

Oh, no doubt that's what she'll say, of course. Even though her odd shenanigans practically created a political rift in her own party.

Agreed there. He says the quiet thing out loud quite often. In that sense the constant vortex of chaos that surrounds him does a lot to insulate him from the consequences of his more minor offenses.

A blunder that as it stands was a huge win for the U.S.?

And I wonder how this jibes with reports that there was a second drone strike on Iranians helping rebels in Yemen that missed.

This one of the most bizarre spins from the left that I've seen in awhile. Why would Trump seek to distract attention away from something that has helped him politically? Keep in mind he's been disagreeing with McConnell's idea of voting for a simple up or down vote on the impeachment and has been strenuously and repeatedly demanding a full trial in the Senate.
